if these plastic Omega / Swatch moonswatches were intended to be "fun throw away" pieces, why go to all the effort of incorporating Omega speedmaster moon watch features such as the dot over 90 for example? Or the boot image on the back of the mission to the moon version?

they sure did put alot of effort in making these plastic watches resemble a Speedmaster.

Would you suggest designing a watch without any visual similarities to the watch that is being referenced?

I'll argue that it takes as much effort to design and manufacture a bezel with the dot over ninety as one with the dot next to it, but only one of these options is a nod to an inside reference which, again, is a playful characteristic...

This is just another marketing move, it will appeal to some, in the same way that advertising in high end fashion publications will appeal to others and using George Clonney as a brand ambassador will appeal to others or sponsoring the olympics will put the brand in view of others. Do people really believe that 50+ year old who walks into Goldsmiths will even be aware of this collaboration? Makes complete sense to keep them a swatch boutique product to avoid confusion.

I guess you're right. That's the same goal with all the fake replica watch makers.

Wasn't that the percent OJ Simpson said he was innocent by of the accusation he killed his ex-wife and Ron Goldman?

yes, but demand is crazy, so perhaps supply will never match demand. Look at the PS5 for example, almost 2 years since they came out now and they are still sold out and being resold.

So they are selling more mechanical and less electronic. If Casio are doing ok Swatch need to advertise more or do some instagram stuff or do some movie collabs. These Swatch MBA executives are paid to much for what they don’t deliver, they need to leave Omega alone.

On the other hand Fender American are £1,000 plus the Fender Squire is £150.

You are definitely from someone PSY ops department, but it couldn’t be Rolex

Yes, so OP knows how reliable my reply was.

Late to all this, but I kind of like this idea. And judging from the interest/hype (call it as it suits your agenda) a whole lot of the casual watch buying public, as opposed to the "collectors" are taking an interest. Oh, and as far as Swatch/Omega are concerned, every £ or $ they get from a casual buyer is worth exactly the same as that from the most dedicated Omega collector.

Kudos to Swatch/Omega - it looks like they've hit a home run with this idea.

This is what I was trying to say previously. They aren't limited edition but that doesn't mean you'll easily get one any time soon. Or they could easily be had... only time will tell.

Do y'all think i stand a chance if i go tomorrow at 7am to the London stores?
I was all up for getting to the London stores for 7am. I think it’s a gamble to be honest. I’ve decided not to go. There’s just no way of telling how many watches they have and wether this whole launch is a way to get Omega/swatches name all over social media. This whole launch could be a massive publicity stunt, with zero real intention to have anywhere near enough watches to cater for the numbers needed.

The big difference between the PS5 and a Swatch watch being that a Swatch watch isn’t reliant on technology that belongs to other companies (chips) which are in super high demand and super low production (thanks to Covid).

Looking at the people in the queues, it’s got a much more of a “queue outside Supreme” feel than anything else… but if these aren’t limited (which Swatch have said they’re not) then those kids who are used to flipping Supreme swag for 10x it’s RRP might be in for a shock.

So, who else thinks the dial execution on the Saturn MoonSwatch is better than on the Speedy Moon to Mars? ::stirthepot::

Crazy times in Melbourne this morning...

I guess I feel less upset about not living near a swatch store. No way I'd be able to camp out all night anyway. I guess I'll go look for some freelance work so I can afford to buy one off a scalper. 🙄
