They just don’t have the watchmakers in the country you are in. Normally they would send them to Switzerland but same issue compounded by long postage. Covid BS so I am told. Omega said I’d be lucky if I got it back next Feb 23

Hey, thanks Greg. Am back on the watch hunt after finally giving up my 300 for “6-9 months” service. As you know my hunt for a vintage Seamaster ended in me being a pussy and spending way too much on a pretend vintage. But hey I love the 1948 which is what it’s about. Hope you are well
Hi Paul. As you know, I have the same model of the SMPc (and, as we know, it’s the best version 😁), so I can understand why you would be missing it while it’s in for service. The Seamaster 1948 is a gorgeous watch. I own the original, subsecond version, which I’m wearing today. Glad to hear that you’re doing well.
formidable!
I might not have many posts, but been a watch geek for many years. Was just looking for a genuine recommendation
I am amazed at the price you can find Certina's for. Certina is part of the swatch group.
Certina DS Action Diver 38mm. 600€ new, so you can probably find a used one under 500€. Nice wearable size and a movement with 80h power reserve. Surprisingly nice watch.

Or if you would like save a little money, maybe buy a cheap "disposable" vintage watch? Perhaps a Roamer, they're good quality but very affordable. I got this 1970s Vanguard for 40 euros.
My 3 of choice that meet your under $500 requirement:
Dan Henry 1972
Hamilton khaki mechanical
Seiko Turtle
