What would you buy for $500?

My daily watch is in for a service and I’m told I won’t see it for over 6 months! The $20 Casio won’t cut it so I need a stand in. For $500 what would you buy, considering it will be in the draw once my daily is back. Thanks

I’m not sure what your taste is but these are two I’ve bought on eBay from UK sellers in the last couple of months.

The Tissot was £80 plus postage …

…. the Perona was £85 (including postage).

If you fancy pushing the boat out, you’ll find a nice vintage Eterna, or Hamilton or Longines within your price range

Oh hell just get out and start looking. For $500 I would be buying a baker's dozen 😁

some more info would be appreciated. What is your daily watch? A Speedmaster? A Seamaster? A Rolex GMT Master? Do you want a similar style watch, or something new?

there are thousands of watches out there for under $500, and with that as the only qualifier, you’ll probably see most of them recommended here!

Thanks, sorry was meaning sub $500 and didn’t mean it as a throw away. Wanted something cheap, but could enjoy wearing as a daily

Thanks for the reply. I have a Seamaster 300 which I have worn everyday for 7 years and now it’s having a long awaited service. I also own a Seamaster 1948 (new version) but it’s too special (to me) to wear as a daily. So looking for something reliable but still premium and probable not vintage

You specifically mentioned that you probably don't want vintage, so I'd second the suggestion for a manual wind Hamilton. Something from Glycine is another possibility.

Sorry, it just dawned on me, why would your watch service take 6 months? I mean, are they building a new watch from scratch, seems excessively long for a watch service, even 2, even 20 watches.

Hey, thanks Greg. Am back on the watch hunt after finally giving up my 300 for “6-9 months” service. As you know my hunt for a vintage Seamaster ended in me being a pussy and spending way too much on a pretend vintage. But hey I love the 1948 which is what it’s about. Hope you are well

If you like divers, maybe a Seiko Prospex or Baltic aquascape.
