Just picked up this quartz model on eBay to restore. I can’t seem to identify which model this is. Movement is stamped “1432”. Serial is 47708205.

Welcome to the forum

Can you tell us what you paid and what you want to spend to get it running? You might be better off selling it and getting one with a better dial.

Edit: sorry if that sounds harsh, but the dial isn’t in great shape

The only thing I could see this dial being used for is if you want to try yourself in repainting / printing a dial (or you find a new one). Just like DaveK, not trying to be harsh here, but the dial really is in a bad, bad state - and the case doesn’t look pristine either.

Maybe an angry dog?

If you look closely from the back, you can see that it has most likely been polished off. The polished surfaces do seem to appear kinda symmetrical to each other. Maybe one of the lugs got somehow damaged and the previous owner thought lemme fix this real quick by polishing. But it turned out to look bad and he thought lemme polish off the other 3 lugs as well to make it equal.

Usually caused by ill fitting spring loaded stretchy bracelets.
Combine the exposed base metal with perspiration and oxygen and you have a recipe for corrosion and rapid wear.

Paid $80 total on eBay. Looking to spend 100 max (hopefully less) to get it running including dial replacement

I was looking into just buying a new dial and swapping. Not sure if this dial is original anyways but would it be okay to swap it with a dial that says “Seamaster quartz” instead of a blank one like the current dial, and would that effect its resell value? Very new to the world of watches so sorry if this is a stupid question.

Just this
This is such an amazing story, thank you, I would have missed it otherwise. That gentleman is also relatively local, I spend a some recreational time in Hood River, OR, so it's exciting to know there's at least a very small chance we might cross paths one day. I would love to see that piece in person and shake his hand.

This practice of interchanging parts is frowned upon here in collectors communities. People who buy these and who know what they are buying will see that the watch is not genuine (i.e. a franken watch). You could always trick newbies but the value of the watch usually goes down.

Generally it's best to replace "like for like" but in this case, not having a terrific value, I think it might be a wise move so you can get to wearing it sooner. The likelihood of this watch gaining any significant value under your ownership is slim, they just aren't that collectable, but as a timepiece, all Omegas are worthwhile and I commend you for saving this one. You would need to verify the dial would even fit on your watch, different models and reference numbers used different dials, size could be off, and legs on the bottom that hold the dial in place could be positioned differently and not allow it to seat. If you have a link tot he specific dial you're considering I bet somebody here would know if it would work.
None of your questions are stupid, we all learned somehow and not being afraid to ask questions is the best way to do that. Your questions are very welcome here, we're all watch lovers and enjoy chatting about them with others who understand the passion! Welcome to the world of Omega!

A good point, and you can always keep the original dial in a baggie with the watch so you can disclose the replacement dial and include the original should you ever sell it.

In all honesty I wouldn’t put any more money into this watch unless you have an affection for it.

The case is terrible, and the dial worse. You could pump a couple of hundred into this, plus god knows how much time and end up with a cobbled together dog.

It’s a noble first try but it’s just not worth the cost and effort imo. I’d chuck it back on eBay in an auction to recoup some money and start over with a slight higher budget if possible.

Awful to say it but maybe this is an instance where the most humane option would be to put that poor watch out of its misery.

Paul does't touch quartz watches and expressly says so on his site. This one is fit for nothing if not running.
