Hi all! I’ve come across this nice little UG and I cannot seem to find much info about it to evaluate its condition and value. From what I can see, it’s gold capped, from the mid 50s, apparently 36mm wide. The seller says it’s completely original (date wheel, crown, crystal, etc.) Do it seem like it? Does it look like it has been polished much? The case doesn’t seem that sharp but I’m not used to gold capped cases… Thanks!
I haven't done a lot of research but here's a plate/capped example that does start with a 4 https://omegaforums.net/threads/universal-geneve-monodatic-cornes-de-vache.91567/
No, fairly sure that reference is correct. If you just do an internet search for "Monodatic 200104" you'll see a few different examples with the same reference and different but very similar serial numbers. I think the 2 at the start of the reference is used to denote steel or gold-capped. I think will 4 will denote gold-plated, which explains the gold-plated example you provided above. This same approach applies to the earlier Polerouters.
I don't think I've ever owned a Monodatic, so I'm not sure I can help much. Did Monodatics have signed crowns? Or has that been borrowed from a Polerouter? There are some stunning Monodatic designs (https://omegaforums.net/threads/the-monodatic-appreciation-society.105158/) but this seems a bit of a plain Jane in comparison to the best that the Monodatic can offer.
Got new pictures but none very sharp…I’m considering trying to go see it but it’s not that easy :/ Any idea what these go for in nice condition? Seller is asking 1150€ and I have no idea if it’s « worth »that kind of price, the only others similar I found for sale (all very close in serial) we’re listed between 1200 and 1500€, but not recently… Thanks!
I didn't look at it closely but thought this was a very attractive example (I'm not sure that it's still available). https://www.chrono24.co.uk/universalgenve/monodate-reference-200101--id22201051.htm
I saw that one awhile back and initially thought the same, but after looking at the photos in detail I noticed the mid-case has been refinished/sandpapered.
Nice Monodatic. Appears to be all original, crystal and crown as they should be and note the roulette date wheel which is always a plus. Reference is correct as it’s gold-capped, not plated. Price is slightly high given somewhat “plain” dial but definitely not crazy given condition.
That’s a Monodate Automatic btw, rarest of the mono family. Were only made for a couple of years I believe.
