Hello everybody ! I’m after some advice , I’m after a large omega to commemorate 24yrs service at my works ( it just closed so I was unable to reach 25 ☹️) I have a budget of around £500 and was after a large watch as I have an 8” wrist so far I have spotted a rare omega Chrono quartz montreal that needs some work or I’ve spotted an omega mariner 1310 working. Is there anything anybody would recommend as I do not necessarily want to go down the quartz route but want reliability to some degree. Any advice would be good and where to buy as everywhere is closed ?
I think you are going to struggle to find a large Omega for £500 because with an 8” wrist minimum case size I would say would be 39mm. I can say you won’t find an auto for that money so a quartz or mega quartz could be within budget. Look in the sales forum pages here for a realistic price point for something you like, wherever you end up buying from ensure you’ve done your homework on the seller and are happy to hand over your hard earned money. Good luck
My advice is up your budget as £500 is likely going to buy you trouble. £500 for watch and over £500 to service and fix it Or Just spend £800-1000 and £200 for a service
Look at Seiko and Hamilton, great automatic choices for the money your talking about. As said double the budget if it has to be Omega. However you can find Omega f300 Quartz (hummers) for the cash but they can come with their own issues. There are some threads knocking around on here about spending £500 it think or maybe it was £1000 but this might give ideas for a used example near you price point.
Get a Hamilton murph watch. It's large and iconic, if you are a movie fan like me. Except I don't have the wrist for it.
I already own a Hamilton open heart , seiko padi turtle , I wanted something different that may go up in value . Thankyou for your ideas though .
For something that *may* go up in value, at that price point, I suggest you get a Citizen ‘Red Arrows’ Limited Edition, track them down at your nearest air show, and ask each pilot (nicely) to sign the box.
cheers, but I am not a fan . Would anybody recommend an old unbranded valjoux of some description , some are quite big .
While you probably easily could find a 70s Valjoux chronograph well within your budget, you'd have to set aside a fair chunk of money to have it serviced. You know, the whole "reliability to some degree" issue
Think I’ve narrowed it down to : Dugena Monza 7730 valjoux Tourby pilot b3c Breil manta pvd 7750 Tag 2000 chronograph 165-806 Longines hydroconquest 3-841-4 Finally has anybody heard of the company/shop EST 1897 ? It’s on Chrono 24 ? Has anybody used Chrono 24 ??
I knocked all them on the head and went for an Geneve dynamic with box and papers in the end , should be here next week , it looks untouched but who knows ...I don’t even know if that box and booklet match the watch any ideas ?
I have a feeling that the original Dynamic boxes were branded as such (others will chime in, I’m sure), so I don’t think this is the original box. However, the Dynamic IS a good choice for your budget, has a significant wrist presence (something you were after) and is, still, quite an under-rated line for such a striking design. I love mine and find it a reliable and very comfortable watch. My Royal Blue MkI says hello: Wear in good health!
Good choice! My first Omegas were Dynamics. Here's a great reference on Dynamics and other Omegas by Desmond you'll find valuable. http://omega-constellation-collecto...10/omega-geneve-dynamic-i-best-seller-of.html
View attachment 965356 Thankyou il have a look now . I also own another omega Geneve I bought a year ago , but the hands seem to be slipping and it is missing a second hand , I bought this one as in need of repair . Any idea where I could source a spare second hand and what size I would need ? Also since a removed the winder and put it back in , it now seems to crunch a little . Do I need to align something before re inserting it ?
