·IMO that ought to make it for you. The one I had with damaged dial and worn case, sold on eBay for USD 4.440
This is my favorite primarily because it's my wife's favorite and the one she really wanted me to have. She was there with me when I bought it and actually encouraged me to get it. It's also the watch purchase that ultimately got me to go on the VIP Watchmaker Course trip that reunited me with my uncle. This is the ultimate keeper for me. It also checks tons of boxes!
I do like this Speedy, although it's a bit big for me. Are the stars on the dial an accurate representation of any part of the night sky or just random? I'd love that to be an extra attention to detail. There are certain editions of Rolls Royces that have lights in the roof arranged in a representation of the night Sky from when it was built (or something like that!)
Regardless of how many watches I end up owning, this will always be my favourite. It's not especially rare or valuable, it's a Quartz, and on an aftermarket expandable bracelet, but it was my grandfathers and I have many fond memories of him wearing it (and me playing with it as a kid). Out of the new Omega's I think the GSOTM has to be top.
It's random. Omega actually uses mineral fragments suspended in sapphire crystal for the dial -- it's not actually mineral aventurine as such (which would likely contain too many random lines etc. to reasonably simulate the night sky). The manufacturing necessary to put the fragments in a perfect simulation of the night sky would add a zero to the price for sure.
Can I ask where you obtained the information about the production of the dial? Is there a video or document somewhere about this?
Cheers, Al
Clearly it is the Speedmaster - in all variations! Love them all - because they are all the same but also truely different 😁
