S Sam909It shows 17 jewels, Montre Zeriam Swiss, is that good quality
An hour ago google lens found the eBay ad for this watch, now the listing is gone.
Ah! He did post movement pictures in a separate thread, so I wonder what the story is. I dont know if i all the pictures were on the ebay listing, but perhaps this is the guy listing them?
I saw movement pictures before the listing disappeared. Current bid was less than 40 pounds.
It sounds/seems like one of the many small swiss watchmakers using off-the-shelf swiss movements (and probably off-the-shelf cases) and making some interesting dial and hand choices. They are still Swiss, and used good parts, but aren't particularly nice or collectable. Most of these brands died off over the years and some moved to mass-market stuff as time went on, but ultimately died in the Quartz Crisis.
But basically: Anyone with some cash could have some custom dials made, put together a purchased case/movement/hands/etc, and sell a watch with their name. Heck, its even easier to do today with Ali-Express and Seiko movements, so this is just the swiss version of 80 years ago.
17 jewels is 'about right' for a 3 hander movement. BUT frankly, it is almost definitely an off-the-shelf purchased swiss movement, so the movement itself is probably good quality. If you take pictures with the case back off, we might be able to tell you about the movement.
S Sam909Sorry for my late reply. Thank you so much, as you connected the missing information for me. You are pretty helpful. Thanks a lot. Actually, I am the one who bought it from the auction. Since I wanted to develop tests in watches and test something different, I wanted to have an alarm watch, and I know the Vulcain Cricket gets all the hype, so I wanted to try something different and test it. The watch looks cool, tbh, and I wanted to have it and play with it and know more about it in general. The AS1475 movement I know nothing about, and I want to know more. Also, I found old ads, but I'm not sure if they are for the same watch but brand is close somehow.
Cool, congrats! The AS1475 is a pretty popular movement from everything I can tell, they made them by the millions. The link I gave in the other thread as some better info about the movement, which was made by A.Schild.
Montres Zeriam seems to be just another re-seller of the A.Schild movement, likely just a brand that did watch customizations for anyone who can fund them (like Thomax), and sometimes sold under their own brand name.
So I wouldn't spend much time looking at that brand, there isn't much out there.
I hope it runs well, and I hope you enjoy wearing it!
S Sam909Thank you so much, I truly appreciate that I got it for 64 $ plus 33 $ for delivery, I will keep posted here once I receive it, I found also Benrus Series 3021 if you interested and not sure if they used the same movement or not but since the one I got was for lower price I decided to bid on it, here is the other one I referred to https://www.ebay.com/itm/286485812823
S Sam909I will also try to learn more about AS1475, do you believe in case any service needed in the future, any watchmaker can work on it ?
$100 for that isn't too bad, it looks to be in good shape! It could definitely use some polywatch, and I hope it runs well. For $100 I probably would have gone for it too.
Definitely take pictures!
Yes, but....
Yes:
Its a really common movement. Millions were made, and there are plenty of parts. Any watchmaker that does mechanical watch repair is going to be able to work on it (though, they are few and far between these days).
BUT: its going to be expensive to service. Most watchmakers won't service even the most simple movement for less than ~$500. This one, I'd be shocked if you can do less than ~$650. AND that is typically 'no parts required', so you'd have to spend more on replacement parts as it needed it.
Its sort of the problem with vintage mechanical watches, they are rarely worth the money it would take to have someone knowledgeable take a look at them, so they are effectively valueless if they don't run well.
That DOES seem like bad news unfortunately, Maybe you can notice some pattern to the alarm that would make it at least wearable.
Anyway, thanks for the thread! I've sorta gotten hooked on the movement and may end up seeing if I can find a cheap one in need of repair to see if I can figure out how they work and how to fix it.
