Scandinavians are polite. The autistic and the neglected can be polite as well. If we are capable of learning about watches then we are capable of learning basic manners if we want to do so. May we anticipate politeness from you while you are here on the Forum? Or, are you going to fuss if you fail to compel us to give you what you want?

Okay, this was your post to open this thread. No 'hello'. No 'my name is ...' No 'thank you in advance for any information you can provide.'

That is considered by many to be rude and/ or a 'drive-by' post.
As I wrote in a previous post are some of us struggling with a lack of social skills. Some are born with it and others have it from the environment they are grown up with.

I just asked some questions and was bullying from the first time I entered this forum. I have asked a lot of similar questions in other forums and never experienced the same.

welcome to OF OP. it's quite surprising that if you are a member of several forums, i assumed on watch aspect too,
maybe you should have an idea already on how much you watch is worth. OF members' reactions to your post are
not bullying but simply an expression of how they welcome new member with fun and pun intended. Initial post like
yours solicits a kind of suspicious replies to avoid the mnimum post and get an indirect pm offer to buy. Enjoy.

Many ridiculous and non seious answers in this group.
I

I´m from a scandinavian country and not an expert in the english language but I have been joining many forums and none of the member there are bullying new members in such a rude way as some of the members in this forum does. There is anything wrong with every post I make in this forum, but in other forums, the members are very helpful and answer similar questions without quarreling about giving away free knowledge.

Great ! Stay with the other Fora. And beeing from northern Europe does not give the exeption to politeness. I`m German and they are very, very blunt. so, adapt and rephrase. ask nicely. even in scandinavia they say : Mange Tak for Thank you. if you can`t do that, then you are either uneducated or outride rude. Blunt regards. Achim

I have been into many forums where people share info without argue about giving hard earned info for free? Sometimes people ask for info and other times they give info, and I think almost all questions that are asked and answered in these forums can be searched up by using google, but that require a lot of time and that is the reason for these groups where people can share info in a much more easy way than google where you very often have to search in a jungle of different sites.

Hi Watch-up, are those forums you are referring to watch forums?
Let me give you a bit of context you may not realize. The world of vintage watches has become a super competitive field, with international market prices having multiplied by 5 or 10 over a period of 5 years on some types of watches, not all thankfully.
Dealers and investors are competing with enthusiasts, and it’s clear some newcomers are joining the fray because they think they can make profit, using information which others have gathered through years of study.
This creates an environment where tight communities of enthusiasts like this one are careful and demanding about the information they share, and how.
It’s sad that it seems inamicable and may take people like you by surprise— but in the real world no one in their right mind should expect anyone else to share valuable expertise with complete strangers. It is sad that the watch world has come to that, but that’s what it is now.

Is there any serial number on this movement?
I can’t see that…
But I would say, it is worth around 400€

I think what we have here is yet another of those who start with a curt and entitled first post and then vigorously debate any corrections to this approach until they hit the magic 200 so they can sell their car boot sale finds then are never seen again.

If like me you find characters like this annoying, since they take but never give, then it is likely best to disengage altogether since it deprives them of the oxygen of debate.

Could this be a serial number?

OK! I understand, but I also have a lot of watches to sell which I took over from a retired watchmaker and there are many good watches. As I told, I´m new in this game and need info in order to not get ripped of by people who want to get an expensive watch for a few bucks.
Could that be the reason for some members here who are afraid to share info about watch prices because they are afraid to not get any cheap deals anymore?

Exactly! I know I am. In the words of Yossarian, I'd be crazy to think otherwise, wouldn't I? 😁

I might not go that far but from your response, you evidently really don’t understand and you're doing yourself no favours by insulting the people you are asking help from.

we discuss values all the time on OF.
if a member (new or old) posts nice clear pics we will assess and value a watch.
however, as is often said, we are not a free valuation service.

Value depends on desirability and condition.
If you have a lot of watches to sell, the best advice I can give would be to look at eBay sold listings (for the exact same watches in the same condition) and that will give you the market price for them.
ebay is also probably the best place to sell your watches unless you have some particularly desirable pieces ( in collector’s terms not high street terms).
If the former, use an auction house or consign them with a dealer.

Just to flip it around. You want to ensure you’re extracting the maximum profit selling to collectors by using knowledge these same collectors have acquired over decades, you expect them to give up this knowledge freely and immediately and aren’t even prepared to say please/thank you or introduce yourself?

I get that you don’t want to get ripped off or leave money on the table and ultimately if you introduce yourself, explain your situation and do some work yourself, people on the forum will help you.

Howver, please understand how your coming offf at the minute “I have a load of watches I need to sell. I know nothing about them so can the community tell me the details and what they’re worth so I can minimise profit from the very same community”.

Watch-up, this is not difficult. Here are some ways to determine what your watches are worth:

1. Search for current sale listings of similar watches on eBay, Chrono24, Etsy, auction houses, and watch forums like OF, etc.

2. Search for sold and completed listings of similar watches on eBay;

3. Research the asking and selling prices for similar watches on watchcharts.com.

But the bottom line here - and EVERYONE is telling you this - is that YOU have to do the work. We are happy to help and offer advice and suggestions, but we are not going to do anything for you if you can’t show us that you are taking the initiative to learn on your own.

@Watch-up - please don't take this as an attack on you and whatever personality trait you have, but @Davidt hits it pretty straight on. We're always happy to help new collectors or just someone who'd like to get a single, good watch and not get cheated by less than honest dealers or eBay sharks.

We all spend time and effort in order to help those and have done so a lot of times - we're not inherently bad people 😁

If you are Danish and feel more comfortable writing in that language, feel free to send me a PM and I will be happy to help you out.

OK. I didn´t know that the function of this forum is hunting maximum profit. I thought it was serious collectors here who was able and honest enough to buy watches for real market prices, but I´m very sorry if I just jumped into the wrong forum and disturbed those who want expensive watches for next to nothing. My apologies to you all..
