What is the most appropriate strap for this 1966 Seamaster?

Hello all,

I recently picked up a 1966 Seamaster with this strap on it. I feel that the strap isn’t really a good fit and especially doesn’t fit the manufacture time period of the watch. Would it be a beads or rice strap or perhaps black leather?

Also, does anyone have any info on the origins of this watch? Is this more of an everyday wear or dress piece? Thanks in advance.

Originally a casual/everyday piece.

I believe beads of rice 1037/70 is correct

I wouldn't get too hung up on the "correct" strap for a particular reference. There are many contemporary straps in colors and materials that look great with vintage watches. Here's an example. This is my 1950s hobnail dialed Seamaster 2577. The strap is golden dyed alligator made by Artisan Straps. The watch would certainly not have come with anything like this back in the day, but I think that it's a very attractive combination.

If you like it, it's fine. But if you are interested in something similar to the original, you have already received your answer. That watch would not originally have had such a formal dressy exotic hide strap. And certainly not a thick padded one.

I will mention that these cheap, thickly padded, alligator pattern calf-skin straps are usually not very comfortable IMO.

Pretty much all of the straps that I’ve seen are padded can someone provide me with a link to a brand that offers a nonpadded black strap? Sorry for being so helpless lol

That watch would look good on every kind of strap. Try black leather for dress and a Nato for play. Back in the day flexofit bracelets were all the rage, in my family at least, but dont do that as they eat lugs.

Those are nice and very reasonably priced

I've bought lots of the Kertz leather straps, They’re incredibly comfortable and have quick release bars

Not padded, matte alligator strap works well IMO
