What do you make of this case....

excuse the bad photos, no daylight at the moment.

I don't recognize this style case/case back. It's threaded, no markings of any kind on the caseback interior. Exterior doesn't have logo, but has case ref and serial, says universal geneve and modele depose swiss

other odd thing is there is an indent in the case on the 9 oclock side, very shallow, almost like a false start on a crown hole? case size is on the smaller side at 31mm.

cal 261 movement and dial look great.

anyhow, what say you, is this a UG case or something else?

Pretty little thing, no idea why its built like that but I'd still have it without hesitation!

I will add, the SS case is quite heavy, feels like high quality manufacture. Movement I believe has US import code, not sure if that jives with "modele depose swiss" on the back, or not?

Ben, I've seen this case on a UG before, the case back on this one is quite odd !

Looks to me like it might be a threaded back that would require a crescent wrench to remove.

Not original case IMO

So is someone faking a case with bogus text on caseback?

Yes, threaded

It’s pretty but I have a suspicion that the drill depression is a sign of Franken. That said the dial, hands and movement are super.

Yes, threaded

Thought it might be. An unusual feature that would be required to remove the case back, indeed.

whatever it is, quite a nice looking watch. On a UG strap also (later period). But I don't really want to keep if it not authentic. Paid $335. Hmmmm, not sure what to do.......

I wonder if UG ever played with the idea of watches for left-handed people? They might have produced a case which could have been drilled through for placing the crown on either side.
Just a thought.

Chances are you may never have proof the watch left the factory like that. Unsure what to do? Keep it if you like it.

They certainly made cases similar to this but that caseback worries me somewhat.

Hmmmm, that caseback is for a chrome case, doesn't fit the case, that might not even be a UG case? Mvmt fit certainly looks a bit odd.
Was gonna mention that........

Is the case on the subject watch a gold shell model. Look at the image showing the movement, and scope out the apparent shell over the case. A white gold shell? I’ve never seen one, but I suppose it is possible.

My view ... Keep the thing and sooner or later you are gonna hit on an outdoorsman with a nice case that needs dial and hands.....

no those are bad incandescent photos, misleading, it's a stainless case. At least I think it is and there are no hallmarks or other marks anywhere that I can find.

that being said I do find the construction odd, in the photo showing rear of lugs, makes it looks not solid, but as I mentioned weight is quite heavy...
