My friends have asked me how I am enjoying retirement. I’m as busy as it have ever been. I served an apprenticeship as a watchmaker with my late father, in my teens and early 20s. Evolved into jewellery store management for 25 years. I have a GIA diploma in diamond grading and appraising. I left retail jewellery 30 years ago, so today, I dabble. Watch repair, clock repair, maintaining tower clocks, belong to numerous musical groups (I play old-time fiddle), collecting pocket and wrist watches, marine chronometers, a few clocks. I have a hobby car which occupies some week ends during the summer. We camp a lot during the summer, with a group of friends. We have traveled in Europe five times since 2000, but won’t be doing any more of that in the future. As my late father used to say, if he knew where he was going to be the day he died, he’d keep to hell away from the damned place!

I know this may be taken as shameless self promotion but I am now an entrepreneur. Anyone who has cats as pets I’m sure loves them but knows the worse thing about them is how loud they are walking around the house. You are trying to rest or watch a movie with your family and all you can hear is that damn cat stomping around. My company makes cat slippers, put these on your cats and you will not hear them any longer. They will be silent and stealth like. I am accepting orders now I’m proud to say each slipper is hand made in Iceland

Operations Manager for the best known UK energy & home services company . I started out 36 years ago as an apprentice heating engineer & hated every minute of it , as I wanted to go to college & then join the Police . But my good old Dad said no chance get a trade .Anyway after 36 years in the profession I can honestly say , I should’ve joined the Police , but it’s a bit late in the day for that now .

That’s awesome. I don’t repair much components in civil aviation other then brush blocks, batteries, ELT’s etc. Mostly troubleshooting and few modifications.

Until relatively recently I worked with thoroughbred racehorses, having turned a passion into a vocation.
