@kaplan let's keep this thread focused on Rocket line pendulettes. I am sure there’s a good thread for any kind of other desk clocks here, and if not, please feel free to start your own 😉

I bought another one as well......From a small clock shop in central France. Is on its way to Australia in the moment. Was searching for another spare part and found out, that there are no parts left in the Factory.... Nowhere to find..... Time to find a watchmaker somewhere on the planet, who can fix problems/ has parts left for the electrical winding system. My watchmaker is still evaluating, how to manufacture a new wheel with the spring loaded contact , which looks like a safety pin . and connects the minus to the excenter wheel, that starts and stops the winding process.... Therefore I looked for a new clock, just in case..... And found it . Fortunately for half price than the eBay ones.

Nice find ! How did you ever find that little shop from Australia ?! I got one (non-working) a few years ago using the local "craigslist" but I dounbt they would have shipped abroad ;-)

yes, took a bit of time and luck..... that collector/dealer was in a small antique mall in central france. and that mall was part of a bigger antique dealers website and therefore somewhere on the web..... i still have an euro account in Munich and payment was easy and fast. i guess, the rest was done in the know, that this little Omega clock was on it`s way to the Antipodes. that will have been the first and maybe last time, the guy sold something to very distant shores. the rest is chemistry between both parties and it is still swimming somewhere on it`s way. but i`m sure, it arrives in good working condition. kind regards. achim

Fascinating story ! Fact is there are a ton of "gems" out there that people just have sitting around and can't be bothered to sell. A few years ago I chanced on the ultra rare EQ 1390 clock listed on the local craigslist at a too good to be true price. I couldn't believe my luck so I gave the guy a buzz and it turns out he had TWO of them as well as a host of other clocks...told him to give me a buzz if he ever wanted to sell other ones but I never heard back.

It really depends on what they're going to do with it. If it originally ran on mercury batteries, they may have to redo the circuitry in some way.

What ?! What kind of work are they offering to do for that kind of money ? Like I posted before the movements in there were used for similar non Omega clocks, some are sure to be around and you could get the parts from them or even replace the movement entirely for...not much. Gotta track them down of course... My watchmaker had one a few years, didn't think of asking him how much he was asking for it.

the movement is"dirty and lubrication has deteriorated" and they need to "repair the pivot motor" which the shaft has snapped
also replace the glass
my thoughts as to why such a high price is that STS know that they are one of a very few that can offer the repair so i get to pay a premium for the pleasure

the quote breaks down as

movement service £505.20 with glass replacement FOC after negotiating this with Tony @ STS

pivot motor repair £144
P+P £15

it uses a 9v standard cell

My last rocket clock service did cost about 500 usd. They had to service the mechanical part and repair the electric part as well.

Yes the battery is just an "automatic recharging" of a mechanical movement.

Well STS are a trustworthy company so I suppose the cost is due to the time they'll be spending on the repair.

I haven't talked to my watchmaker for a while, I'll give him a buzz tomorrow and see if I can get the name of these movements.

Pretty sure the movements are made by Concord Watch Company. There are a few non-omega examples out there.

Heres one on ebay now if you need an expensive donor: link

Another example:

EDIT:

Here's a completed auction from yahoo Japan if you want to see one disassembled. HERE

Stamp on the movement makes it look like the caliber might be "42.EL.3" But who knows.

Edited:

I didn’t even know these were a thing. I love that fact that after all these years there are still Omegas that surprise me

Yep - time is valuable, so they charge what their time is worth. Lots of people forget that the value of the item being repaired really isn't a factor when pricing the work to repair it.

So I got myself a second 5556 ! Sadly the movement was replaced at some point by a "Made in Germany" Quartz (UTS ?)...pretty smartly done though since the date change is functional. Still looks the part and doesn't make a wuzzing sound every 20 minutes ;-)
I looked into getting a donor but might keep it like that now as a "beater" of sorts.

As a side note these "rockets" are seldom seen aren't they !
