What did you add to your collection in 2020?

This year was very interesting because it was the year of change. In January I decided to quit Instagram and honestly it was one of the best decisions ever !

My preferences evolved and I got interested into watches that I discovered and found appealing, not those that were presented to me again and again by IG algorithm.

So yes, inevitably, there are now much less Speedmasters in my collection but it I am very happy with everything else I managed to unearth. The collection refined and there is something special about each and every watch landed this year.

Ooof, some absolute belters Kov.

There’s a good Netflix documentary about the pernicious algorithms behind Instagram/Facebook called Social Dilemma - I too have sacked off IG, total waste of time.

Two watches added to the collection this year, a Railmaster in the summer after seeing it a great discounted price in my OB and then the new Submariner in the autumn which I didn't expect to get so quickly.

Being a new member and having only started my collection, the new additions are all those that I now own.

My Connie 2782 , which started it all . With a recently new bracelet

and my Dads old Longines presence which he nearly threw away in the trash.

let’s hope there is more to come. I’m now looking for a Longines Conquest or an Omega seamaster from the 50’s.

2020 has been slow, even by my standards.
I only got this c. 1947 Tissot with rose gold furniture:

Going Japanese this year...

Also, a sudden impulse:

(just spent a few hours on the bracelet, now it's servicing time).

@S.H. those MM300’s have always really spoken to me, but the size has been a deterrent. How have you enjoyed it?

I've enjoyed it very much, but mostly with short sleeves. Now with winter clothes, I much prefer smaller watches, even the speedy sees less wrist time. It is a thick watch. I compared it with a SM300 from 2000 or so (41mm I think), the MM300 look almost smaller because of the dial.

Very comfy on the bracelet if properly sized, but I discovered that it even nicer on a silicon tropic style...

4 "new" 2020! 🥰

Your NVCH-30 looks pristine! Mine is more worn. Well done.

@kov : Oh, man! DIBS on all of it! Particularly that Rodania. (I still think of that sweet 105.003-63 that I missed. 😉) Once again, I am in awe of what you manage to turn up.

BTW, that’s a really valuable lesson: each and every watch you purchase should be special to you. Fewer regrets that way and more pride in your collection.

Edit: Might as well add my last addition for 2020 here. It flew from Europe to California at the same time the first wave of vaccines flew worldwide. In @kov ’s honor, I’m posting photos showing the glossy dial.

I thinned out my collection and moved up to some nicer pieces. I realized that the top of my watch box where all purchased this year:

Reads like a book: Maurice Lacroix Aikon auto 42mm, Oris Aquis, Casio 5600 in AliX Titanium Camo Bezel/bracelet, Reise Resolute, CW C65 Manual wind, Silver Archetype 1, Tudor BB 58, Tudor BB41, Lorier Falcon II, Tudor Oysterdate Jumbo, Sinn 556A, and a Seiko SARX055. There were a few others purchased this year that are in the bottom drawer of the watch box and not pictured: Vario Eclipse Salmon dial, CW C5 Malvern 595, Steinhart OVM. Ball Fireman Enterprise, Casio GA2100, Hamilton Khaki Field Auto, and a TC-9 titanium Skelton pilots watch.
