Buying some window shades at Home Depot, the 20 something year old sales kid said “your wearing my favorite watch”
The Speedmaster

Only other was getting a look by a guy a few tables away while having a 39mm Steinhart GMT with the Pepsi bezel. Does this count?

I was thinking this never happened to me until I remembered this guy. I was selling some seats that I was going to to swap out in my VW but ended up going a different way. The guy who came to look at the seats for his project saw my speedy and said "nice watch!" Then he lifted his t-shirt:

I of course asked if I could take a picture and he kindly said yes.

There are watch guys/gals and then there are watch guys/gals. I am glad he commented on my watch because I was too obtuse to notice his.😉

Goodwood Revival. Many times.
Genta Gefica. “Wtf is that?!” From a rather drunk fellow diner.
Omega Marine Chronometer. “Is that the new Apple Watch?” Woman in North London pub.
Omega MQ Constellation. The azurite dial one. “I can see stars in your watch”. Very drunk woman at a drinks party.
Speedies get comments from men who know the Moon connection. Like the crowd at Apollo11 documentary premiere in NY.
Really, quite a lot of comments. But I do walk around with my sleeves rolled up and gesticulate wildly.
And to finish....
my now wife who said...”that’s a bit vulgar isn’t it?”when we first met. It was a Rolex GMT two tone. Gentlemen, I sold it.

I know, right? You should have seen him. It was like catching your neighbor jn his boxers getting his mail. He was bummed.

My dentist. I commented on his watch and how I was impressed. He has been very kind to me since. We talk watches now (every 6 months).

Both my boys (24 and 28) have some vintage Heuer chronos and wear them when they go out. They often strike up conversations with people about watches. Both have dibs on my stash.

I often comment on someone's watch if it's irregular (Seiko, Swatch, Invicta, Omega or whatever). They like it. The statement: "Cool watch" makes people feel good.

I had a (male) flight attendant on an international flight one time wearing a 6542 GMT. I tried to buy it off his wrist. He was flattered. Bought it new way back when. His only watch ever. nice.

People in my office comment on my watch everyday. I try to mix it up. They never ask if it's fake. 😀

Vintage Tonneau watches draw attention, something not seen often but may stir memories of watches their parents or grand parents wore when they were kids.
That’s exactly how I feel about them

Over the years, I have had several men -- and one woman!...

I hit the Explanation Mark and my mind stopped there as it has been trained to. My immediate though was "Say it ain't so!"

Ahhh, another child of Southern California in the 70’s/80’s. (To the tune of “if you’re happy and you know it”) If you wanna brand new car got see Cal, if you wanna brand new car go see Cal.
Cal Worthington was probably the pioneer of the ridiculous used car sales TV ad.

I don't know what causes people to notice my watch, but what causes me to notice someone else's is usually boredom in situations such as:

- Long elevator rides
- Sitting in the pub
- Meetings
- etc...

I never received any comments about my watches until I picked up a Daytona 116500 at the end of last year. Have even had a few non watch people compliment me on it. No one seems to care about my vintage watches... part of the reason I like them 👍

This is interesting...only real compliments I have received from non-watch people was on my Tag.

Similarities.

At one time, I owned a vintage Rolex Oyster Daytona Cosmograph. It was the one watch that regularly got noticed by others. We were at an NAWCC regional 20 years ago. We had just finished breakfast in the coffee shop. Two fellows on the far side of the coffee shop were getting up, to leave. The one fellow walked clear across the restaurant (about 100 feet away) to where we were seated. He pointed at my Daytona and asked me if it was what he thought it was! Coulda sold it right there.
