I've had a few people notice my watch - I recall being in New Orleans a few years ago, walking down by the river, and passed a teen that was maybe 17 - he said "Nice Speedy!" and when I turned around he was holding up his wrist with one on as well. Mine was on a strap, so he had a pretty good eye to catch it, honestly.
On the same trip at the airport, I saw one guy in line ahead of wearing a Panerai, so when he turned my way I said "Nice Pam" He looked at me, then his wrist, and said "Oh yeah, thanks" looking a bit uncomfortable. Then a lady in line near us said "We are a whole Pamily" and they all held up their wrists wearing theirs.
I've also had people not notice what's on my wrist, and that can be awkward as well. I was meeting with a vendor to possible purchase a 6 axis ABB robot from him for a large project I was leading, and he took me and the two other engineers with me to lunch. I don't recall how it ended up there (it wasn't me) but this guy went on a rant about "the guys in suits wearing their fancy Rolex watches" and I was wearing a YM at the time...had a good chuckle to myself over that one. Still bought the robot...and they did a good job on the project.
It was a change from the regular comments I got with that watch, which was primarily "Is it real?", and then of course there is certainly the silent judgement that goes through people's minds...remember just because they don't say something, doesn't mean they aren't judging you! 😉
