“Oh, that parcel that came today - I’d just sent it away for a service/new crystal/gasket ........”.
Ah! I believe I said that last week with my new Certina addition 😀

I just say...no it's not new...you have seen this before many times, remember i wore it to that <insert event> we went to, you know the one where you looked so fantastic and 20 years younger and even prettier than the day we got married....by which time she has forgotten what we were talking about...

I just left them everywhere all the time. Put these away, put these away. Couple of months watches were always put in a bowl.

Now they are all put in a bowl if I leave them out. New, old whatever....

I have had too many watches for 10 years. We go away and Mrs STANDY finds watches for me at antique stalls. She went to New Zealand with a friend and she was sending pictures of Omega Seamasters from antique shops and asking if I wanted them. 👍

My wife takes the trip of a lifetime every six months, so I just tell her this is the last watch I'm going to buy.

That they were cheap and I picked them up at a bargain price on eBay. Of course, when I shuffle off this mortal coil, some lucky buyers will be jumping for joy as she’ll probably sell them off on eBay for about £100 each...

I’ve tried the “I’ve had this watch for ages” line but it never seems to work for me like it does for my Mrs.... saying that, her items are a fraction of the price and usually “for the house”
No matter how sneaky I’ve been in the past she always knew
She always knows ! ( likely she’ll know about me writing this ) Love you babe 🥰

As little as possible.
And to make it worse, often watches are sent with "signature required" upon delivery.
It is really hard to spend half a day in the garage, waiting for the FedEx or UPS truck to show up.

My wife will come out to the garage every hour or so and ask "What are you working on now?"
It requires some real creativity on creating "worthwhile activities" in the garage while waiting for the watch to arrive. 😀

.

I know Fedex and DHL let you mange deliveries, and will hold packages for you, if you want to avoid so many garage chores. 😉

The past two weeks I did all kinds of work around the house, plumbing, counters, sinks, faucets etc. my wife sent me a text today saying she was looking at all the work I did with the plumbing and she was impressed saying it looked very nice. That was nice but of course I mentioned I saved us a lot of money diy and I think it’s fair if I buy a decent watch. Quickly she replied I took a lot of shortcuts and swore a lot while I was doing all the work so she says I really don’t deserve it. Plus the cat needs to get to the vet. Oh well at least it started off nice.

This is an easy one -- I don't share the news. For the most part they really aren't interested, anyway (other then the money aspect). Better to share the news with your watch buddies, as they will likely appreciate it more.

And later when the inevitable question is asked "Is that a new watch?", just reply "I have had this for a while, mumble mumble, surprised you don't remember, mumble mumble." And you will not be lying whatsoever, as at that point you will have had it for at least a couple of days (i.e., 'a while').
I have done this...lol

I haven't really told my partner about how much I've spent on watches, and I think she'd blow a gasket to learn that 3% of net worth is tied up in watches. I'm just going to quietly sell a few off and 'rebalance the portfolio'... But also thinking about useing the proceeds to buy a speedy...

I report new purchases to the wife just like I reported large purchases to the IRS when I used to cross the boarder to avoid sales tax...... 😗

I buy watches and flip them for a profit. I spend a bit here and sell more there and she sees the money go in and out of the bank account. All the $ I use has been from profit.

some of the profit has also gone into savings so she doesn’t really care what I do to be honest. If my hobby funds itself and makes enough to put away for the kids bit by bit then it’s a hobby worth doing.

I make the late night dashes to meet with sellers and come home with more watches. The most she has said was “haven’t you already got that” or “I swear I’ve seen you wear that one before”

god bless her........
