Out of curiosity, on TV and through pop culture, there are lots of references to Lobster in the US. It seems to be more readily available than here in Aus.
How much are they usually to buy? Curious to know what the differences are in price

It depends. I live in southern California and lobster at Costco is very well priced, especially when they are having a sale. See photos. That's online special and sometimes, they will have exclusive store specials as well. In restaurants, I would say a main lobster dinner at a lower end restaurant will run little less than $40 and over $80 at some higher end restaurants. Then again, that's just what I've seen so I am sure some billionaire on this forum had a $1000 lobster dinner somewhere.

Usually $12-$15/ lb near Washington, DC. When the season is going well, the restaurant supply store sells as low as $4.99/ lb.

A friend goes to Main every August, and throws a big picnic featuring lobsters when he returns. He buys ~30 lobsters, and payed about $4.00/ lb this past summer.

It is expensive at restaurants. Unless you go to a chain like Red Lobster expect to pay >$30 for a lobster entree that may only consist of a single tail.

I made moussaka tonight for the family. My kids actually ate it, so it must have been ok! (Though they were promised ice cream if they cleared their plates - bribery works wonders)

Well last night it was New York Strip Steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus .
The steak had been in the freezer for weeks but I was pleasantly surprised to find it had no freezer burnt taste at all. It was as good as if fresh from the butcher. My new fridge is a fairly low priced one that I got on sale when the last one packed up. Its newer more efficient technology and seems to be superior in many ways to what I've been used to. I went whole hog on the extended warranty with extra coverage against things like power surges from lightning strikes , a common problem in these mountains. Perhaps they gave me the best in the warehouse so I won't get to cash in on that.

I am in Arkansas right now and I tried out a place called Stoby's that has a PB&J Jalapeno Hamburger. At first I didn't know what to expect but the spiciness of the jalepenos really compliment the sweetness of the jam. The peanut butter adds a different consistency. I'd recommend going there! Too bad I go back home soon or I'd be there everyday! I had little expectation from Arkansas because I'm used to the city, but this place is nice and relaxing. Everyone is nice.

Short ribs. Left them in a marinade of apple, pear and beer for a few hours.

Not tonight but last night at the three Michelin star Inn at Little Washington.

Looks amazing. This is very ironic. We had friends over last night and were just talking about Inn at Little Washington!

Still have not made it out there. Hopefully one of these days, before it's too late. Lots of DC-area chefs have passed through those kitchen doors, and emerged as future greats.
