Still hard for me to imagine it's 17 years old now, 330ci 5MT M-Sport, it just doesn't feel old or slow driving it yet. When it's freshly washed and waxed I still have girls tell me what a beautiful new BMW it is not knowing that it's only a couple of years younger than they are.

Surprised that one of these specially equipped, heavy duty performance cars would be available new, from a dealership, to John Q. Public! Were you still a police officer when you bought it? And if you were, was that why it was available to you? Features wise, how did it compare to the Mercury Marauder model of about the same vintage? I believe the Marauder was equipped much like the Interceptor. The Marauder had a 302 V-8 twin OHC engine in it, and it was built in St. Thomas, Ontario. I think some FWD models of the Ford used by police were equipped like an SHO (Special High Output) which I think had a high performance Japanese V-6 (was it Yamaha?) in them. That was likely before the era of your Interceptor. I bet she goes when you mat the pedal! How would it do if it had wings on it?
It was not an easy task finding a Ford fleet dealership that was willing to sell me a new P71 (long story). I contacted about 15 different Ford fleet dealerships before I found one that was willing to sell me a new one. I was not a Cincinnati Police Officer when I purchased it...I had already resigned from the Cincinnati Police Department and had returned to Delta Air Lines from pilot furlough. The Ford fleet dealership where I purchased it stated "We are willing to let one (or two or three) new P71s slide into civilian hands every so often"...or something along those lines...and "Ford won't notice". I paid full MSRP for my P71. Also, I had a difficult time registering it in Ohio where I live (another long story) since it was titled as "new"...but they finally threw up their hands and registered it anyway...I think they felt sorry for me when I started crying in my Dunkin' Donuts coffee. 馃榿

Features wise, my P71 is very basic (I have the base police package) and it doesn't even come close to the features of a Marauder. The only options I wanted and purchased were cruise control, power drivers seat, carpeted floor (the wife unit was adamant about getting carpet and not getting a rubber floor) as well as a spot light delete. It has less performance compared to a Marauder as well...a 4.6L V-8 SOHC and a 3.27 geared open differential...but I had a local Mustang speed shop install a mild SCT tune, FRPP 3.73 gears as well as an FRPP Trac-Lok differential following purchase.

LATE ENTRY @Canuck...

Pics below from the day I purchased my P71 new from the Ford fleet dealership in 2007...

My fourth VW Golf, and the best yet.

Heaps of killerwatts, four (4, count'em) pipes, flappy paddles, all wheel drive and RACE mode 馃榿.

A great cruiser (long trips) but Ms JiO gets to drive it more than me.

And my daily transport (unless it's raining).

Vespa 300 GTS Super with ABS, ASR, SS, RGDO.

There are cars that look sharp the day they are released, but sadly fall victims to fashion and look old, dated or just plain unusual a year or two later.

And then there are car designs that are so sublime that they stand the test of time and it's hard to tell whether they are one year old or ten years old.

That's one of them.

But not all Beemers share that DNA.

Daily driver as there realy is no need for a car in the inner city of Frankfurt

But then when the sun comes out there is this for the weekends:

1959 MGA 1500 Roadster, my pride and joy ...

Currently still in winter hibernation ...

And in its natural habitat:

Cheers,

Max

Ps: Some sweet rides in this thread!

15 mpg in town and 馃槻 at the track.

The STi more than makes up for the MPG in SMG - Smiles Per Gallon. My previous cars were a 2001 Taurus, a 1994 Taurus, and a 1988 Tempo. There's just no comparison. Even with 95k miles on it, the Foz drives better than the second Taurus did new.

@Canuck I wanted one of those Marauders so bad I could taste it. For awhile someone in my office park had one and I'd get to see it every now and again.

RS6, although currently in bits at Audi due to an oil leak that they can't seem to fix

I hope it's under warranty. Audi service cost here in Oz are eye watering.

Yes it's only 18 months old. 拢180.00 an hour my local dealership charges and they've had 42 hours on it up to yesterday.
