If I hadn't just spent most of my watch fund on a SM300...

Cal 321, nice-ish looking dial (although far from perfect) and for a dealer, a fairly reasonable price, probably with room for negotiation.

Great looking watch Ashley, I've not seen many with that particular backing case before. 'The original Moonwatch' . Fantastic !👍

I'm not 100% on that caseback either, I was under the impression that caseback was issued in 1969 on Cal 861s after the moonlanding as a spur of hte moment thing, but I could be wrong.

Its been about finding the right one, so many Cal 321s have shagged out dials, dinged up cases, replacement dials, replacement hands etc.

Dealers that have a proven model from a proven year, with matching case, movement, dial, hands and caseback tend to mark them up heavily. Price variation is wild with a Cal 321 '67 Speedy Pro I was watching on eBay with a Cal 861 service dial selling for $1,400 AUD recently, and I know of a dealer in Melbourne with a CK2998 in 90% condition but fully original with box, papers and original purchase receipt asking $22,000 AUD.

What I want is pretty simple:

  • Ref 145.022-67
  • Cal 321, running condition (I'll get my guy to service it)
  • No water damage
  • No heavy dings or overpolishing in the case
  • No bracelet (the 1039 Omega bracelet is frankly not one of their best, I want to fit either an Omega leather Rallye strap on OEM Omega deployant or 1479 bracelet which still looks vintage but doesn't fall apart)
  • Hands that are either all intact or all not intact (I don't care whether lume has fallen out or not, as long as they all look the same, and nobody has tried to fix it).
  • Ideally, some chocolate patina
And I know that between a full overhaul, a 1479 bracelet, a strap, and probably a displayback to show off that beautiful movement, I'm going to put probably $1k+ into getting the watch the way I want it, so ideally I'd like to pay under $4,000.

Its somewhat moot right now as the SM300 ate half my watch fund but in a few months I might start looking for Cal 321's again.

Thats a lot of cash !!. I think a watch like that would definately stay on my dream wish list. 🙁

Its WAY overpriced, the guy is DREAMING. CK2998s are worth a bit but not even half that IMO.

You know what you need to do is set up a camera to do 1 second time lapse photography of that La Magique, and play it back as a video. It'd looks so weird seeing the hands float around out of nowhere sped up.

Showing the size difference between the Omega Magique Cal 1357 and the Omega Golden Seamaster 168023 - I wonder if these two rarities have ever been photographed together??!

Waiting for my Dad to take a few more pics, the others he took of the front and differing angles weren't what he wanted so he's having another go 😀

Fantastic watch, ultra thin with floating hands. I'd love to see the inside of one, the battery must be tiny !.
Thank you for posting it.
