What a difference OF is compared to others!

I have been into this hobby for years. Started off at TZ and about 12 years ago signed up for the other major watch forum “seeking” more. I pretty much didn’t go anywhere else and contributed, bought and sold watches and straps there over the past 12 years, including Omega. In my search and research for a 176.004 Big Blue I found OF. I don’t know why I didn’t know about it earlier and wish I did. I am still new here.

A recent experience has really put me off the other site. Especially compared to the content and interactions I have had with the site moderators here answering questions I had setting up my account. In the other forum I posted one too many straps for sale based on forum rules. I immediately realized I made a mistake and was notifying the forum moderator to self report my mistake to remove my posts. When I went to send my message to the moderator I was notified I was banned from the site for a week. I followed the process to email to appeal the ban and received no response for 3 days until I tried a different contact subject. Long story short - the site moderator who contacted me gave me different answers as to when I would be reinstated and could care less I admitted I made a mistake and tried to immediately correct it. After a few emails to get clarification I was told to “stop blowing up his inbox”. After contributing there for 12 years and being very polite and respectful in my messages that is the response I received.

What a contrast to how I have been treated and welcomed here! It took a while, but I am glad to be part of this community as I transition out of the other. Thank you OF!

I totally agree. This is a very special place, and some of the greatest examples of all time are in hands of members here. I also feel grateful to be part of such a community. Warm welcome to you friend.

Welcome @smilton

Set up an avatar and stay a while. This is a great place, some of the best people I have never met (ok, I have met a couple).

Rules here are pretty easy, 200 posts to sell or post in the sales forums (but you can PM anyone), don’t bump or post another in the sales forums within 24hr of the last (or we will make fun of you), politics will creep into a thread occasionally (as long as it stays civil and respectful, we are all good), cat pictures begin when a thread starts to run off the rails but only after page 4, and if you ask if a watch is a “good investment”, be prepared for mockery.
Oh- and when you hit 1k posts, you need to buy everyone with over 10k posts a Speedmaster. That last one is real- don’t look it up, just take my word for it.

I’ll be sure to start saving my pennies now or stop at 999 posts! However, if I go over 1000 posts 321’s for everyone!

I find this place fair. Compared to water boarding and things like that it’s great. No but seriously it a very cool setting with a lot of people willing to share knowledge that took them years to acquire. I’ve also had some great side conversations with many which are almost always pleasant and enjoyable. Like life in general there will always be a few that you may not mix well with but that’s not an indictment on anyone it’s just the realities of life. I’m glad I have been able to assist a few people as I have received much assistance and watches have really been a great distraction as that pandemic was a real bummer and it was unpleasant to witness so much suffering. Overall a pleasant place and I wish everyone well.

Welcome @smilton yeah we are pretty welcoming to great people who love the addiction and are positive people!

While its called Omegaforum, you just might find we might be a great forum for all brands lol. While the Omega experts live here, we love all watches, something you tend not to find on watch forums.

I can't wait for you to hit the 200 posts and start to sell your straps. We love straps here... since lets be honest almost all of us own the exact same watch made since 1969 (Speedpro) and the only real difference is how cool our straps look.

Yeah kids suck it up, we are worse then PAM guys, we are just not snobs about it and try to pretend that its not a thing... 😉

Oh and we like Seiko here as well, and fought with the mods to get a Seiko forum for years... (Yeah I did some research on you) 😉

Im a big Seiko fan too and have owned everything from a 7002 diver to a GS SBGC203. Looking forward to contributing there. I’ve also built some watches by sourcing cases, movements, dials, hands, etc. I’m building a diver chronograph with 7750 top grade at the moment. Just waiting on the right hands to ship to complete it. I know enough to be dangerous building a watch! Traded my last chrono build for a limited slip diff for my track car with my buddy who owns a race shop. Another fun, expensive hobby that means I may not retire as early as I want!

Would love an E46 M3! Had an E30 M3 I used to track for instructing with bmw cca and another I raced with a buddy in bmw ca club racing in early 2000’s. Late 80’s to the early 2000’s was bmw’s best era. Had an E28 M5 I did a mechanical restoration on and a few E39’s along the way. Now I race 1991 civic si in endurance racing. No where near as fast as the E30’s, but a fraction of the running costs with all the fun. If only I still had the E30 M3 street car. Crazy money they are bringing. I think I’ll start another thread on the cars you’ve owned and wished you still had. My other true passion besides watches.

Welcome, you'll find we're a fairly easy group to get along with. We do like cars too. There's even a thread.

I've loved mechanical watches for over twenty years but until recently have not dipped my toe into the higher end of things, having purchased my first Omega. I am also beginning my journey as an amateur watchmaker. In my brief time here I've thoroughly enjoyed this forum and the members. I haven't posted much yet (REALLY need to get to that 200 mark ;-) ) as I'm drinking from the fire hose on the reading side of things to learn as much as I can about these little marvels! This seems like a top notch group compared to a lot of the forums I've been a part of over the years for various hobbies & interests. Thank you all!

Welcome, and this could just be your lucky day. A lot of competition you may want to move quickly on this one?😉
