Hi, I am looking to sell my 2014 Omega Seamaster in the UK. I have carried out a trawl of the internet and ..... and ..... well, it appears to be a minefield. Is there a best way to sell it and any advice gratefully received.

TBH, if there were a single best way, everyone would use it and there would be no other ways. Maybe you can tell us what your concerns and priorities are. You can sell on eBay, Chrono24, via a consignment seller, to a second-hand watch dealer, etc. All have pros and cons.

Chrono24 prob your relatively fuss free, best bet despite rising transaction fees over the years

I have been tempted to use Chrono24 but I have only made purchases through them so far. I still find Ebay to be relatively safe and easy.

Go on then, . . what model Seamaster do you have?. .

eBay, at least in the USA, is now approaching 15% in fees, which can be quite substantial when selling a fine watch. For ease of use, they rock, but those fees can kill you.

I recently sold my Speedmaster, listing it both here in the classifieds and on another forum that specializes in the crown brand. Same description, same price, same pictures. Here: zero inquiries. There: several inquiries, sold it in a week.

Not to get down into the weeds on this again, since it has been beaten to death in other threads, but eBay fee rates on watches drop dramatically with increasing sales price. As you noted, for low value watches, the fees are pretty substantial on a percentage basis. Even so, I often do better on eBay than on the forum because of the larger audience. These days, I usually list something here first and give it a few weeks since I'm always happy to keep a watch within the OF family. If it doesn't find a buyer, I put it on eBay.

The OP is in the UK. The eBay fee structure here is very different to that in the USA with no increase for watches AFAIK . Once you have signed over to their own payment system (and it is compulsory to do so) and away from PayPal, then every 2-3 weeks eBay run a deal where there is 80% off their fees meaning selling any item including a watch incurs a total fee of around 2.75% including the payment fee. This is clearly very cheap vs at other times. Since the OP is not remotely qualified to sell here yet, that makes eBay his best bet IMO.

Don’t forget the old face to face sales. I know people are often concerned about risks of muggings etc but tbh I’ve met and kept contact with three great people in the past year. Two were me buying one was me selling and I still maintain contact with all three people. Good people all three.
