From my father’s best friend who was happily married for 50+ years:
“How important is it to you to be right?”

From my former boss who did my job before me for 40 years:
“Don’t carry a lazy-man’s load” (when trying to carry 3 boxes up a flight of stairs at one time rather than one at a time in three trips).

Photo professor in college:
“Always allot twice the amount of time you think it will take to get to a job”- this has paid off so many times I can’t count anymore.

Electrical engineer teaching me to work on electronics:
“You are the path of least resistance”

My father when I got my drivers license:
“The three things you don’t cheap out on- your brakes, your tires and your insurance. If the first two fail you will need the third”.

"Keep your nose clean and your boots dry"
-me when one of my employees called me at 3am asking for advice.

"Don't fυck up."
-my now retired boss and long time mentor.

(And a bad piece of advice to round it out)
"Avoid responsibility. Life will be easier."
-my MUCH older brother.

Your post just reminded me of a joke:

At a marriage counsellor, the wife was asked what things annoyed her most about her husband. She said "He keeps picking his nose, and he never lets me go on top when we have sex". The counsellor then turns to her husband and asks him what was his response to that. He said "My late father gave me some sound advice that I swear by and has kept me out of trouble all my life: 1. Keep your nose clean, and 2. Don't f*#k up" 🤣

Upon reflection, it’s probably ill-advised to expel any body fluids into the wind…
