What’s happening on March 26th then?

I may have to buy one and put on eBay. Until they are available widely may make a few bucks. I live 1hr away from boutiques in London. Thoughts?

If you’re an hour from London you have access to a superb rail system, assuming they’re not on strike.

By now you’re probably too late to get a decent spot in the queue, but on the other hand, you never know until you try . . .

I'm not seeing a "down the middle" here or anywhere else...

Apparently "down the middle" means that there are two sides. People aren't so good at math these days.

Just take a look at this earlier thought of yours...

I won’t be buying one.

I think you should keep it that way and save it for someone who actually wants it.

What colour is most desirable the Tiffany blue? Alaska one? I will get in line a couple of hours before tomorrow. Put on eBay might be able to make a few bucks before the supply increases.

No worries can sell to anyone who wants it.

It's odd that the people who are most upset by the connection to Omega, are the ones who want to continually reinforce that connection, even beyond reality...

Or don’t appear to grasp the org structure

I just called Swatch Group in the US and I was told the watches were only going to be available through the stores and never through their Swatch website.

If I cannot go to one of their stores I cannot buy the watches.

The young lady suggested that I look on the internet (the auction site), but I assured her I wasn’t going to pay $5,000 for a $250 Swatch.

She said she was sorry and that she felt my frustration, but in essence I apparently can either drive 1,000 miles round trip with no guarantee of buying a watch, or I can go screw myself.

If this turns out to be fact, I’m going to dump every Omega, Tissot, Longines or Hamilton I have and I’ll go buy a nice Patek Philippe.

I’m too old to be penalized by a watch company because of my zip code.

reading the thread before posting, you’d find Robert Jan reporting that Nick Hayek confirmed these will be available online

Nothing’s over ‘til the fat lady sings, but I’d lean toward Robert’s report of Hayek’s comments

I hope I am not discouraging conversation, but I would wish that we could evolve from discussing value retention to other areas of watch collecting 😀

Amen to this. The priceless joy I feel when winding and wearing my 3570 shall remain intact, and a 2998, say, shall forever command respect and historical interest while, for me anyway, requiring a second mortgage.

What is probably not understood, I feel, is the fact that by doing a collaboration with another, much lower positioned brand, Omega is effectively underlining that it is a high-end brand. That is part of the dynamic! It also ensures that there isn't a cannibalisation between the brands as no-one looks at a MoonSwatch and thinks "great, now I don't have to spend 7K on a mechanic Omega Speedmaster", which may have been the case if Omega had worked with Tissot, to name one brand they have historically shared a lot of designs and technology with. While some brands from time to time work with competitors for (extremely limited) releases, these are meant for collectors and won't cannibalise sales, but instead garner extra sales.

Anyone looking for a marketing consultant? Troels is your guy. He nails it. (Mea culpa. I am happy my wife digs the Sun (“it’s so fun!”) and Pluto (“looks great”) styles. That $13K saved 😗).

So you will give up some of your favorite watches because you can't buy a plastic toy by clicking? How old are you exactly?

People now are camping outside Swatch stores in Spain.
They just can't wait to order them online.

The absurdity of it all.

You have managed to make the snobs, who are also threatening to sell their entire Omega collections, look like the rational ones.

Come on man it is not that bad, if you enjoy your mechanical Omega run with it.

Oh man. 😵‍💫🙄 My distillation...

1) The MoonSwatch is a Swatch product. It is not made or sold by Omega. Omega lends its branding and IP in the name of fun here.

2) Nobody in your life will ever mistake your Moonwatch Pro for a MoonSwatch. They don't care. That's speculative watch fantasy. Also, one of them is made of colored ceramic/plastic.

3) A lot more people care to know what Omega is today, than did just a few days ago, because of this collab release. Brilliant.

4) I'm a full grown adult and I own, and have previously owned, many Omega watches. I still want a MoonSwatch. For me.

5) No one considers the MoonSwatch to be a value-oriented purchase. They don't compete with entry level Tissots, etc. They are just for fun. Because fun. They also don't compete with the Moonwatch Pro. That's silly logic. They probably promote the Moonwatch Pro and definitely Omega, in general.

6) A light weight and cheap traditional chronograph for running/hiking/camping/etc. is a great thing. An Omega one is just awesome. It's still making me smile. That is good for Omega.

8) Fun. It is a good thing. Poor attitudes towards conspicuous consumption are extremely high. Making people smile is the best thing any luxury brand can do today, IMO. Omega is a highly valued and highly regarded luxury brand, one of the highest. They've just unabashedly put their hand directly in the face of old-school stodgy elitism and opened themselves up to new potential sales, now or later, by engaging with new people using fun. This is brilliant. Again, I'm really fond of Omega right now. F*** Rolex. Yuck.

7) Space is the place. I'm personally very proud of Omega for joining with Swatch to promote space exploration for ALL ages, well beyond the lucky few who can afford $7000 watches. This is easily the most important issue that exists for our species. I observe that most people never even think about exploring these days. Thank you, Omega and Swatch.

Also, I cannot wait for the MoonSwatches to flood the WRUW thread. Because that's just going to be super funny. 😁

Haha, I just imaged a bunch of vitriol directed towards the MoonSwatches.

I was worried about the brand getting diluted even further, or a cheapening of the brand itself. But the more I've come to see the ads, marketing, and discussion the release has generated, I've chosen to view it through a lens that allows me to see the release as something fun. It's not going to detract from how much I enjoy wearing my own collection.
