My brain hurts after all that rant!!

I feel that no one who really wants this new Swatch re-make has any clue about this forum, nor cares, so let them think they have a Speedmaster if they want to.

Any educated, knowledgeable person here knows what is of worth & valuable (i.e. 105.012 vs 145.012) so please save our brains with mindless waffle.

Swatch has these watches to buy if you want them, but the quality is definitely of the $100's level so buy what you want. Omega has some amazing cutting edge stuff if you want to spend more!

find it distasteful to set one's tests in opposition to something rather than forming something in a positive way.

Look man, this and the rest is just odd - it’s obvious (and morally neutral at worst) that people don’t like to associate with things that have negative associations for them.

It’s not “immature” or “distasteful” for people to no longer watch Louis CK’s standup, even if it’s content might make them laugh. Is not immature to not go to a specific bar because its crowd is annoying, despite the bar serving good drinks.

And it’s certainly not immature or distasteful for people to increasingly find great swathes of the modern “watch world” to have become pretentious, self-serious, and gate-keepy to a degree of casual repulsion.

If you can’t at least empathize with that, it doesn’t seem you’ve been paying attention too closely or too long. Or, maybe you just instantiate it.

In either event, a luxury watch brand that increasingly appeared to want to cater to only “the 1%” lent its name and design to its sister-company to build a limited edition set of fun-toy watches that nobody (of any import to the company) will ever mistake for anything other than a fun-toy, but that also can be had (hopefully) by a broad range of socio-economic groups that may love Omega, space exploration, etc., but could otherwise never dream of participating in the fun, history, or joy of ownership.

Whomever looks at that set of facts, and has the initial gut reaction of “Omega has cheapened itself” seems to me far more ripe for an “immature and distasteful” label.

I mean I know the forum exists I want two, one for me and one for my godson, Robert-Jan wants one too and he started SpeedyTuesday, a lot of us just think they’re really cool and the fact that they annoy some people makes me want to own one so I can post pictures of it everywhere too lol

He has always wanted a Quartz Uranus Speedmaster

I want one for myself and one each for my two sons...they already have 300m divers as do i, and i also have a 1863 sapphire sandwich, these moonSwatches will be nice additions to the family, something fun to wear casually and to push out the fashion dailies the boys wear as beaters from their collections.

There’s no “end goal”. The whole thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Enough to make me want to move on. Just all the stupid hype alone is enough to make me nauseous.

Bye

Well, there aren’t any Invictas that say ROLEX x Invicta SUBMARINER on them for 250 dollars. That’s basically what this is. And some people here are fine with it somehow.

Plenty of Douche,s that have Rolex on the dial 😉

Just lighten up man. This is a watch sold at SWATCH for 20 something years olds that shop at SWATCH…Not even sold at Omega. This is a fun watch for kids ( just some grown men are either happy or butt hurt about )

Nobody is actually paying the ebay listing prices, people are just joking around and being silly with that, they’re getting produced in mass and will soon be available at MSRP online
Hopefully, Omega can match the supply to the demand. Once the hype goes down they probably will.

FIFY. These are sold by Swatch, not Omega. Omega has display cases in shop purely for display.

Not even Tag H would pull a stunt like this, nevermind JLC, Cartier or Rolex partaking. At least the Tag Smart watch was reasonably well made.

Let's face it Swatch own Omega and can do what they like...and I for one don't have an issue with it...

think about 20 years or so ago, Mercedes and BMW would never have built a small hatchback, now the A Class and 1 & 2 Series cars are very highly in demand and keep their companies going - perhaps not their flagship models or their big money earners e.g. E-Class & 3 Series respectively - but keeps them, and in this case...Omega going, and introduces it to a new demographic...

flippers are already flooding ebay with "Swatch BioCeramic" at inflated asking prices even before they have got hold of any specimen...

I had to change some of my ebay searches already to reduce the number of search results...🤦

Not only would TAG Heuer do this, TAG Heuer /DID/ do this in the 1980s:

They were terrific too, they got a whole generation (me included) into watches and on the used market they’re still doing that decades on.

Did you see the one (Mars) that yesterday with days still to go, hit $61,600.00 - probably the sellers mates driving up the price with bids...but if not... you could buy 3 solid gold Speedies for that...

Interesting watch, but it reminds me too much of the Swatch Irony that my mate asked me to fix.
(that took some interesting techniques to get the case apart!).

Also reminds me of some cars I used to own.

"Ah, sorry sir, we don't sell a seperate water pump seal, we only sell a water pump a$$embly ".

Well after 32 pages I feel like most people like and accept these for what they are or these are not for them but feel like that's ok........ Then there's the rest of these people who are somehow so offened by the mere existence of the MoonSwatch, they got me feeling like this guy........

Although I'm not a fan and it's a basic marketing principle that it's risky to tie your brand to a cheaper one, isn't Swatch generally making watches for kids and teenagers? I remember some friends getting one for their birthday in primary school.

So probably the only adults getting all worked up over this release (whether positively or negatively) are the geeks on the watch forums.

This is my godson’s Gen 2 I bought him for $100, he had a Gen 1 plastic case before that for years and loved it, and now has a mechanical TAG Aquaracer. They were really a terrific success for TAG for what they achieved.

Even though they have cheap quartz movements in them, most of them I’ve found still work 30-40 years later as long as they haven’t been flooded or subject to a leaking battery. My mother’s Swatch watches from the 80s still work too if you put a new battery in them, I haven’t tested their accuracy or anything but they do run and Swatch do know how to make durable movements even if they’re not intended to ever be serviced.

I think this is a brilliant release! My first watch growing up was a Swatch and my kids’ first watches are Swatches too. The watch I remember my Dad ever wearing was an Omega. This release just does it for me on a personal level. I think they did a great job to market the Speedmaster line to a whole new audience.

So, I’ll definitely be picking up a few as first Speedies for my kids. It’s so fun I’ll probably pick one for me and the wife as well!
