Imagine if Omega brought out ceramic versions of this collection based on the new Moonwatch......

Him: "Oh, Sweet, is that a MoonSwatch?!"

Me: "No, it's a mechanical Speedmaster."

Him: "Oh, damn, that's too bad. I got like 6 at home! Hopefully you will be able to get one someday."

::facepalm1::

It's surprising, but I guess not unexpected. "Michael Collins who?" ...."BUZZ! No way, no one was named Buzz! You're making that shit up!"

@Duracuir1 , think I'm past my best-by-date.

“Bro they’re pretty much the same watch and the ETA quartz is more accurate than the cal 3861 anyways…”

I think they are good fun. To have fun and to be able to take things in a light-hearted manner are good traits and a welcome departure from the jumped-up 'is-this-watch-a-good-investment' bullshit that is seemingly attracting all the wrong people to this hobby for all the wrong reasons.

I love that it is the Tiffany Blue one that has gotten the Uranus name 😁

I don't have a problem and may even buy one or two as stated before. However I fail to understand what Omega has to gain from this? Then again, if the daddy gains some $ its gonna come your way as well. I think that's pushed by Swatch and Omega may not have had a choice in this but to go along.

You need her for another 2 watch allocation! Did you explain the potential flip value and show her Venus and Uranus? (lol, feel like I'm a 5 yr old making a fart joke)
If you make the trip I will see you there, I'll be the guy wearing a speedy. 😎

You may change your mind when you see what these get listed for on the secondary market...

I’m genuinely pissed that they managed to put the concentric rings on the sundials of a 250 euros plastic watch,but they failed to do so on my 5K speedy ..!!

I can get behind the colorful versions. And who wouldn’t want to go on a Mission to Uranus, after all, right?
However, the “moon” version is too close. For my taste the Speedmaster has become too popular as it is. Over are the times where nobody notices it (or has one). Those were rare occasions over the last 30 years since I’ve been wearing one.

Wonder if these will be limited and to how many. And what will then happen in the secondary market.

Swatch has been there before, done that before, and the result wasn't pretty. Back in the early 90's Swatch introduced all kinds of new complications in the Swatch line....chronographs, alarms, automatics and a frenzy developed to try to get one of these $80 watches. They even had a $1,600 platinum Swatch. In addition Swatch introduced all kinds of limited editions in fancy packaging which created further frenzy for collectors and opportunities for second hand dealers (all pre internet). Nicholas Hayek Sr. was frustrated with all the flak dealers and customers were creating because Swatch could never produce enough of these watches. It was a mess. Hayek's viewpoint was that everyone should be able to get the Swatch they liked with a bit of effort, but easier said than done. So Swatch tried all kinds of sales models; stand in line one day for a few hours to pay for the watch and then come back the next day to pick it up (Chandelier), or a lottery system (Sam Francis, a 50,000 piece LE), a Swatch Collectors club with exclusive releases, and a few other sales models. Eventually the fad passed and the crowds moved on to something else, but it tarnished the Swatch name for a few years.

Swatch quartz watches are non repairable and eventually they will stop working, I've got a bunch of Swatches from that era and they just no longer operate even with a fresh battery. But Omega's name is on the dial of these new watches yet in five to ten years many will become unfunctional. Perhaps that is irrelevant but who wants an Omega that doesn't work and can't be repaired?

Is this a good feeder system to get new buyers interested in stepping up from a $250 watch to a $6,000+ Speedmaster in the future? Maybe, maybe not. I look at this as a sales effort rooted in today, but I doubt it will put much money in Omega's pocket in the future because of it. Omega must have figured a tie in to a Swatch watch today won't hurt the brand name long term.

Good luck in obtaining any of these watches, it won't be easy if the past is indicative of the future.
