Weems sock drawer special

So about forty years ago I was given a watch by my great uncle to replace my old timex that had broken (probably closer to fifty years tbh). I thanked him very much took it home and put it in my sock drawer. I was about eight at the time and digital watches were the in thing.
Cut to the present day and four sock drawers later I decided to have a closer look at it.
I know little to nothing about Omega watches so here I am for an education.

Omega Weems are quite rare. Yours needs better dial pictures for an evaluation. The bezel locking part is missing. That means work .... And money to put into it. But on the other hand: rare .

Yes definitely not in mint condition but it still runs. I’ll get it back tomorrow and get a better picture of the dial.
The question would be would you sell it as it is or would you do it up first. I restore classic cars so I prefer to see them in their raw state fully original.

Sell as is I suspect is the financially prudent route. Antoine sells repro bezel locking kits that are extremely good if you choose to go down that route.

Definitely sell as is.. your dial has the same phenomenon as mine a growth of copper oxide!

Yours looks really good. I thought keeping it original was the way to go. As they say it’s only original once.
The next daft question is where is the best place to sell and would it be better to service it and have the bezel locking kit done first.

There’s a few options.
Where are you based?

eBay of course is the easiest or you could send it to a specialist auction.

If your going to sell. Sell as is and let the buyer do whats needed

As you don't have the needed posts to post on many of the usual forums. Maybe a military Facebook page or Ebay.

As mentioned. It's a rare watch, so don't be so quick to sell until you get expert advise on value

Check on the MWR or Military Watch Resource web site and post good pictures

Based in the UK. Believe it or not I buy parts of eBay all the time but never thought of selling a watch on it.

Yes the uk. That’s why I came onto the forum. Asked one guy a rough stab price, sent him photos to check it is what it is and he said 2500gbp took it to a jeweller who I’ve spent a lot of money with over the years and he say 250gbp.
Would definitely put you off salesmen

Some could sell around £6000 but depends on condition. That’s why I suggested MWR forum. Lot of good guys over there.

Just be upfront about you want to do with it

What I would do : Buy the missing locking parts from Antoine. Not expensive. Don't fit them. No service. No polish, do nothing else. Best detailed and plenty of very good pictures . Describe the green on the dial as Copper Oxide , normal for this 82 year old type of Tool watch. Find and fit an old very distressed band. If you have time, list on eBay with BIN Euro 6500. Do the same on Chrono24 for Euro 6250. Include insured international courier . That gives you the best worldwide exposure and wait for offers. Good luck! Achim

A car dealer would call it patina. As a restorer of classic cars I would call it s!&t as I’m assuming it was fitted at some stage in the 50s/60s.
