Cadillac ATS 2.0 turbo AWD

Forget about the cars...I am way more impressed with a garage with nothing but a car in it. 馃榾

This is as close to vintage motoring I can get. A 1998 Lotus Esprit GT3. 40k miles, 1 owner from new, me !

Pics were taken after driving to Switzerland a few summers ago. Lightweight 1 piece bucket seats are not great for a 3000km journey 馃槻!!

I seem to have moved away from vintage motoring as I've got older. For some time now I've concentrated on vintage guitars and now the 'watch thang' has got a grip on me. The move away to a more user friendly, dull car seems to have coincided with the level of my back ache.

I used to love getting that old VW air cooled, flat 4 sewing machine out on a trolley, and getting the BMW with it's in line 6 cylinder lump up on ramps... not anymore chaps. I would be the one ending up on the trolley these days!

1)1969 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible: Cold, damp, noisy, awkward hood and needed a push.
2)1986 BMW 320i Convertible: Occasionally damp in the winter with an awkward heavy hood.
3)2005 Peugeot 307cc Convertible: Never damp, cold, noisy and the only awkward thing about the hood is I have to press a button until it folds it away in the back. (Bit dull though)

Did i forget to mention the vintage guitar thang??? Got the same virus. 馃槈 But since i seem to have too many things i collect, i've recently been thinking about selling some stuff. Already sold a '64 Fender Jaguar (candy apple red, matching headstock, a real beauty...) and am currently considering selling maybe THE greatest sounding acoustic guitar i own - a 67 Gibson J-45 adj. Stunning. If you're interested in more info, let me know...馃槈

Love the sound of those. A lot of similarities between the love of watches and guitars. Vintage vibe, aged road worn look and feel, original components??? I developed a love for guitars aged 5 some time around 1963. It's never worn off and, right now, I'm sitting in a room with 10 guitars, a mandola, a small drum kit, percussion instruments, Marshall, Vox and Fender Amps.

Love the idea of a 67 J-45. Love to see a picture. Is it a round shoulder model like my 1964 B45 12 string?
I have T.Sun-Burst mid 70's Gibson J-45 but Gibson 12 string next to it is a 1964 Gibson B-45 C.Sun-Burst. Also there is a 90's Fender Telecaster TLAC100, Fender Eric Clapton Stratocaster, Melancon Classic Artist Strat, 1976 Gibson SG Standard, 1974 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe and 1977 Fender Mustang Bass. 1992 Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite.

Here's a few of shots of some of my babies.

I'm currently waiting (impatiently) for this one. It seems like it is taking forever for it to ship from Chicago out to WA
(internet photo since I can't find any of mine)

Love the cars but I can see some lovely looking guitars on your Avatar. I'm developing a love of vintage watches but the guitar thing is deep in my bones. Been obsessed for 55 years.馃檮

Nothing vintage for me. Just an assortment from over the years. In the avatar pic from left to right are an Epiphone ES 175 Custom Shop reissue, a homegrown Fender Strat (Fender licensed body and neck, Lace pickups, Wudtone finish - I had lot of fun building), a Martin D-18 (since gone), a homegrown Telecaster knock off, and an Ibazez acoustic. Not shown in the photo is a 20+ year old Alvarez acoustic that started the whole guitar thing, and an almost finished Les Paul style build that is 90% done.

It has the long yoke, so I put a banjo fitting on it and use a pressure gauge. Yeah, cheating, I know......

I also used to have this...

1967 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 (Kind of regret selling it)

But maybe soon/someday I'll be driving one of these...

1961 Jaguar HK150...black and red RULE!!!
Now, I know the pain and regret in having to sell a fifties sports car as after 15 years, I have just sold this and must make a new avatar...

Good luck with getting a 150, and that is a cracking colour scheme. I'm just stuck with this sixties cat now, life is hard 馃榿.

Cheers, Chris

Well there's vintage and also good workhorse or customised guitars. I really like the workhorse guitars. They're the ones I pick up first and I don't have to worry so much about the cat using them as a scatching post. Last week I went away for a weekend. I didn't take a Gibson or a Fender with me. I packed a 拢160 1970's Aria acoustic and a 拢120 more recent Tanglewood acoustic bass in the back of the car. They both play really well, sound great and they provided the backing for some late night, drunken, renderings of Waterloo Sunset, Like a Rolling Stone and other questionable multi voice, out of time'warbles'!馃槜

On the subject of worrying about the well being of vintage items, I Gotta say... I'm getting a bit worried about walking around with a 52 year old 105.012 up the sleeve of 拢5 sweat shirt. Since the forum experts told me it was worth more than 拢30 I never leave it at home or in the car anymore. It's become a constant but slightly worrying companion.

That is a very beautiful guitar. I can almost imagine that vintage 'woody' aroma when you open the case. Love the crazing on the Nitro finish. Very cool, understated guitar. If I had the money it would sit very nicely alongside the B-45 12 string (but I don't)馃檨
Anyway... I can see why you would enjoy playing it. Just having it in the room is nice. I look on guitars and other musical instruments as functional art.

I know! I always imagined myself pottering about in the XK on a warm sunny day in my dotage. Ah well, times change.

The E-Type will never be sold though, first registered three years after me (although she looks a lot better) in the same town and the exact model I wanted from about five or ten years old. Am on the lookout for a 15ft plot in the cemetery...

Cheers, Chris
