If it makes the Alfa guys feel better, in 2008 I bought a Chrysler Crossfire repairable write off as an impulse purchase. Your choices were way smarter than mine. Don't go to a car auction after having too many beers at lunch, or you can wake up the next morning a Chrysler owner.

I argue that's not a Chrysler. It's a Mercedes Benz in all but sticker. My buddy had an srt6 one.

That's a lovely example......
I drive an early Discovery which I use for shooting, excellent cars if you don't mind using a spanner yourself every now and again.

That's part of what made me buy it, I figured its an R170 so even Chrysler couldn't screw it up too badly but it turns out I was mistaken. The design leaves the car with about as much rear view room out the back as a Lamborghini Countach, the side mirrors are pretty much useless due to the wide rear guards so there are huge black spots making it very difficult to change lanes.

Then Chrysler insisted on a weird 18" front and 19x9" rear wheel setup that ruined the ride and performance and forced you to buy uber expensive low profile tyres for a car with no guts and too much weight to need that much contact patch. Then the gear ratios are totally wrong, so even though its a 5 speed, only 3 speeds are actually usable as it carries the same ratios as the SRT6 but with ~115hp less power, and on top of that and stupidly heavy and wide wheels they also somehow managed to make the drag much worse than the R170 Mercedes it was based on, its about as aerodynamic as a brick.

Every single body panel on the car was unavailable due to Karmann going bankrupt at the time, and due to the Chrysler / Mercedes split, Chrysler no longer had access to any parts and Mercedes refused to supply them without a Mercedes VIN. Then every bit of the interior that they replaced with their own had silver paint that rubbed off when you touched it... I've tried to forget most of the misery that was the Crossfire, it really was a step-kid neither company wanted. Alfas are at least nice to look at and feel good to sit in which makes you forgive the rest, this thing just had no redeeming qualities.

I've always forgiven my Alfas just due to the fantastic looks and the exhaust note. My wife and kids have always commented they knew when I was coming home because they could hear the exhaust 😗 😁

This is my V6 taken some years ago, wish I had recorded my previous Alfas too 😜

FWIW : if you still have the car and plan to sell at some point, I would advise against using this write-up in the sales advert... not the most compelling "you-should-buy-this-now" language... 😁

I'm currently waiting (impatiently) for this one. It seems like it is taking forever for it to ship from Chicago out to WA
(internet photo since I can't find any of mine)

Thanks. I bought it in 2008 when it was 5 years old and had 28,000 miles on on. It now has 99,500 miles on it, and I still get a big grin every time I get behind the wheel.

Nope pretty much all MB on those it was the previous gen SLK, the srt6 was an AMG in all but name. Even the radio was MB parts bin not Mopar.

Those SRT's did o-60 in under 5 seconds and held 1g on a skid pad. Those are serious numbers for a car at that time. Basically on paper they where better then an e46m3 at a much lower price. In reality not son much for a multitude of reasons. My friend went from one of those to a Boss302 to a new vette. Now he wants an e46 lol.

My daily driver is a 2007 Ford Police Interceptor (P71). I purchased it new in 2007 from a Ford fleet dealership and then had it mildly modified with Ford Racing components and a mild SCT tune. I became ridiculously interested in Ford Police Interceptors while driving them on urban patrol as a Cincinnati Police Officer from 2004 through 2006.

Why not just get the Marauder? My understanding was mechanically there are interceptors with better interiors, and cost equivalent to a citizen getting the interceptor package.

Also not sure if you know about this.

I was on a mission to purchase [new] a daily driver that was the same as what I drove as a cop...the P71 police package...and then slightly modify it from there. I like Marauders quite a bit but they don't have the utilitarian aura that the P71 has [imho].

That's quite an interesting article...I hadn't seen it...thanks, dude!

Currently I'm riding one of those ...

But I'm impatiently waiting for warmer temperatures (and less salt on the roads 🙄 ) to bring my summer car out of winter hibernation 😉.
