This might see am little sophisticated at first, but taking into consideration that a lot of watches here are worth more than my cars, i thought i'd give it a shot. As a matter of fact i realized that most people with ONE eccentricity (like watches) often share other crazy notions like (vintage) cars, espresso machines and so on. This thread should not be about showing off, but about true passion for beauty and craftsmanship. Let me start of with the car i have in my Avatar, a 1969 Alfa Romeo GT 1300, with a 1750 racing engine in true GTA style. This has been my first vintage car, i actually bought it right after finishing university, with my bank account way below zero...I guess that also made me appreciate it a lot more... It has been with me for over 10 years now and i m still totally in love with this car. I have had the engine rebuild 3 years ago by a specialist, and she runs wonderful. And that SOUND.........
A beautiful car and one of my all time favourite Alfas Still driving this one, although photo isnt too recent
Thats unfortunate, when you get a bad one its makes for a horrible experience but a good one makes driving a huge pleasure. I've had a few 156's and they have been pretty reliable although this one is now 15 years old I keep thinking to move it on and get something newer but I'm on a non permanent contract in this country and this car has little value now................and my money went into watches the last few years
Loving the Alfa My favourite marque I've had a number of (new) 156 Sportswagons and GTs ALL had multiple problems (generally the electrics) But I wouldn't drive anything else out of choice
Yes, they're great great drivers...IF they drive. My problems were also electrics, but also the 2.4 Diesel engine...always dirty... And, oh, wait, ... also the turbo, suspension, brakes, gear, rust, pretty much everything... Monday's car...
In 1981 I had an Alfasud which was way ahead of its time in terms of design and performance but so fragile and unreliable. One wet evening driving back from work my seat actually fell through the floorpan due to rust and that killed any desire I have ever had to own another Alfa.
If it makes the Alfa guys feel better, in 2008 I bought a Chrysler Crossfire repairable write off as an impulse purchase. Your choices were way smarter than mine. Don't go to a car auction after having too many beers at lunch, or you can wake up the next morning a Chrysler owner.
