Watchmakers Who Fabricate Parts: Recommendations

Hi Guys,

Ive posted elsewhere on the forum looking for a part for a specific crown size for a watch and it has proven impossible to find.

Does anyone know of a watchmaker who is willing to fabricate / modify own parts in the UK ? Seems like a lot of people don't do it these days but it might be whats required.

If you post what watch it is and, ideally, add a couple of photos and, better still, take off the caseback and post the serial number of the watch case and movement, someone might even be able to tell you where to source an original

Hey @Spruce - Ive already posted elsewhere with no replies but its an incredibly difficult watch to find parts for as its vintage:
Accurist Super Submarino - also know as the Accurist Jenny

Watch is with my watch maker now and it uses an unusual crown size which makes it very very hard to find a replace.

Best plan of action would be a watchmaker who can make or modified parts, so if anyone knows of one let me know !

Most likely you need to find a Hobbyist watchmaker.

I have been experimenting with using 21st century techniques to replicate watch parts. It is not easy to make a single part. Most watches even back in the 18th century were mass produced. Which is why the easiest way is to find a part from another watch or spare.

The crown is more of something a jeweler/goldsmith would make. It is mostly lathe work. Finding the right tap though could be an issue if it was a non standard size. Usually there is a base metal core. which might involve casting or a drop forge. The outside being stamped and or spun over this to hold any gaskets or bearings needed to prevent the incursion of dust or moisture.

I have a watchmaker in Spain that can do it, but as I dont live there anymore thats tough 😀

Unfortunately in this case finding the part has proved impossible.

Ive just had a clasp break on another watch and the watchmaker said I need a jeweller for that as the tube needs "brazing" back on

So it looks like I might need to start another post about jewellers who fabricate watch parts !

Specs for the crown I cant find as follows:
1.4mm Stem Thread
Case pendant 3.6mm diameter
Crown Diameter 5.8 but 5.5, 6, 6.5 would work
Crown depth 4mm
