Watch Winder

just wondering how important a watch winder is?

I don't wear my watches for work, so only really wear them at the weekend. So a normal week would be to get a watch from my safe, set the date and time wind it up and wear it all weekend. Then put it back in the safe therfore it would wind down and stop.

Then same again the following weekend. Is it better to have them ticking constantly in a watch winder?

And am I doing my watches harm by letting them keep winding down?

Thanks

No. If you aren’t wearing them there’s no reason to keep them wound.

What is the point of a watch winder ? Is it literally just so you don't have to keep setting your watch?

Need it for Automatic perpetual calendars.
Maybe automatic Moonphases. Or automatic annual calendars/triple calendars.

everything else, should be ok without.

I finally bought a watch winder, because one of the old skindivers I picked up has a Seiko movement without hand-winding. As it's not only a date but a non-quickset day, it's a real pain. :whipped:

Anything other than that no need. I just hand-wind my other autos.

my solution to non quick set is just wear them on the date (or a day removed) that is showing. 😀

True, but I like this skindiver as a beater - one to strap on for a couple hours in the evening after I've swapped off the watch I'd worn that day. Having to set it every day is an enormous pain!

At least the winder I got was on sale, at $35. Don't need anything fancy

I can set a date usually quicker than fiddling around and getting a watch in and out of a winder.
