I'm visiting the wrong thrift stores.
He didn't say thrift store, he has the guy in his basement strapped to a chair, with a car battery clamped to his parts....may not even take a week

You would be surprised what a typical Connecticut mom and pop jewelry store has in their safe. Trick is to do enough business with them so they warm up to you, know your style and are willing to show you the good stuff. I make it very easy for them to wholesale to me. No fuss no muss...I pay in cash and I don't need a receipt. Start with the small stuff and work your way up. This is boots on the ground work with brick and mortar shops.

Today I ran across a guy selling these two and I'm in the process of pushing his price down and packaging them up as one deal. This may take a bit of work as he's looking for all the money on them. Let's see if I can wear him down over the next week 馃榿

Damn. Please send that Flightmaster my way when you鈥檙e done haggling 馃槑

Good luck. I recently bought in a private sale a Flightmaster in original state (ie not refinished). I could not help noticing that the tapered edges of yours seem a lot lower than mine. Maybe the one you show here has been significantly cut down by refinishing? (Unless this is simply a model variation, in which case I will just be embarrassed).

I have attached your image alongside one of my Flightmaster so you can see what I mean.

It is still attractive in that strange 1970s style.
If you get it for the price you like, with plenty of leeway, it can hardly matter.
And I will bet that what you pay will be way less than what I rather foolishly paid for mine.

Ok this is the kind of motivation I needed to start treasure hunting in CT. I also recently drove by a number of antique shops in southern Vermont that I will need to investigate and report back.

These are two different case numbers.

The "thin" one is a 1450013 using the Cal. 910. The crystal is slightly domed, and is held in the with a rubber O-ring, like the Speedmaster Mk. II crystals are.

Yours is a 1450036, using a Cal. 911. The crystal is flat on top and uses a hard plastic gasket to hold it in.

If you look at this thread you will see examples of both:

I need to start doing this. So many eyes on the ebay and internet. This is a great thread on how to go about it. Please keep updating us.

If it brings up information that clarifies things, then I don't see the problem with mentioning it as you did. I think is was a pretty reasonable assumption given how severely we have seen some Mk. II cases thinned out from aggressive refinishing.

Nothing to report today as I was stuck (gasp) working and no time to poke my nose around anywhere for deals, but last night right after dinner I gotta call from a young jewelry hustler who needed to raise quick dough so I bought this full size Tag Heuer model 2000 quartz diver off him for $160 which ain't too bad considering the condition is fairly nice. Unfortunately my wife has confiscated it to add to her Tag collection. She claimed she doesn't have one yet with a silver dial but I kinda think she already does. Easy come easy go.

Then there's something wrong with the thin one of @janice&fred if it's a 145.0013. It appears to have the wrong dial with the all black running seconds sub dial instead of the green and black 24 hour indicator of the .0013 ( and therefore is possibly a 911 instead of a 910.

Hit the Manhattan Chelsea area outside flea market as well as a couple indoor vendors this morning. Not a bad turnout for the first day since the pandemic shut down and a few more of the regular watch dudes will be setting up again within the next week or so. Here's a crude street view taken right before I called up fellow member "Norfolk" pestering him to come down but he is still recovering from his birthday celebrations yesterday.

Outside I managed to buy this group of stuff...nothing exciting but at least I didn't come home empty handed.

Indoors I checked out this stall of the fella who does a lot of clocks. Don't really know the guy very well but he does usually have a good load of watches but nothing I could chisel down to a price that would allow me to bring them home.

Spent some time with George Aloi at his booth and I especially liked these two pieces he had.

The Rolex is a 1952 precision snap back that measures almost a whopping 38mm and has a super rare Asia market tutone dial that really pops from across the room!

Your camera phone is running out of kerosene or something鈥攖hat image is too small. Is that an old G猫neve? And what's the one with the Hebrew numbers?

Hah! You think that's merely an old Geneve? That my uninformed friend is an "Ultramar" and just in case you're not familiar with the language on the dial script and case back...neither am I but the red "special' caught my eye as that's what my mom says about me. .

The watch with Hebrew numerals is a Wakmann so I grabbed it since most I come across in NYC with similar dials are either Russian or super el-cheapo brands.

Sorry bout that Fred!

Seems like you covered the gas...look forward to going to the flea again. Are they doing it Sunday too? I thought it ended for good last December and the lease was up. Glad it鈥檚 back. Same people there?
