I came across a couple spots I am nursing. This guy had a box of junk watches but I almost bought this damn thing off him. We are getting together next week if he doesn’t have any watches yet I might pick it up, teddy ballgame was before my time but I always loved the splendid splinter, the kid, the greatest hitter who ever was, Theodore Williams

Apparently you haven't spotted the nondescript dark colored sedan in your rear view mirror. Trust me...he doesn't have any watches anymore. 😁

Now for some stuff I ran across and did manage to buy. First is this package deal of 4 charming cheapies I got from a small watch shop. The TV dialed Seamaster and Hamilton are in surprisingly pristine condition as the proprietor said they were from the same family and not worn much. The deville shows some age to the dial but overall is presentable, and the Lecoultre needs a cleaning and a second hand but the watch repair shop guy was true to his word as the movement is clean as a whistle with nothing apparently broken. He serviced all but the Lecoutre as he just got it a few days ago and hadn't had the chance to get to it. I bought everything as the price was right and if I cherry-pick that rubs most guys the wrong way and leaves some left for my competition (like Walrus). 😁

Be careful what you wish for. I'll give ya the both of 'em for 5 hunna dollas and throw in a running Bulova to boot.

I hope fredjan doesn’t mind me using his thread. I know many of you guys and girls hit antique shops etc and find decent stuff. Just recently a few changes happened that I actually have time to do that as I cover many towns I usually have no reason to be in. Friday I stopped at one it was a father and son run antique/junk store. I asked them about watches they didn’t have much explaining they are just getting reopened and would have had to close the store for good except they own the building and have several apartments they rent out which allowed them to reopen. They went on to tell me 6-7 people in their network that run similar stores lost it during the lockdown.
In another town I found a few stores that still had contents inside but permanently closed signs taped on the door. Kind of sad to see and hear. It’s not all doom and gloom though I did find a couple spots and although they currently had no interesting watches they reported that business is picking up and many of these types of stores do well as gold prices rise (that’s what they said I didn’t ask for details) they are also happy as live auctions are taking place again. I hope these types of stores recover and thrive. They all gave me a card and told me to keep in touch. I guess this is proper watch hunting right? I’m not expecting any barnfinds but maybe something of interest will pop up.

As a chronic yardsaler, junk shop browser and overall treasure hunter, I think my latest find belongs on this thread. I had posted last month's find on the under $50 Covid watch buy thread, but since I am not under lockdown, I may have been disqualified for my $3 Elgin buy. Today I picked up my first ever Waltam, some diamonds and a little silver in this 2 piece watch lot buy. I slept in late this morning, didn't leave the house until after coffee, my 2 mile walk, exercises and it was nearly noon before I got out into the world. I figured all the good stuff was gone by then. A bit after 1 PM I stopped at a small yard sale and asked if he had any watches. I have learned to ask, even if I don't see any. He said he had some in the house and he would go try and find them. He came back out with this Waltham, with "diamond" indices and the pocket watch. Normally, I don't buy pocket watches, but this one had a 1969 Kenney half dollar, which is 40% silver, for a dial face. The melt value of the half is $3.91. I gave the Waltham a little wind and held it to my ear.....it was running. I asked the gentleman, "How much for the pair?" He replied, "Is $5 too much?". I said "No.", paid him and as I walked back to my truck, I finished winding the Waltham and set the time, 1:11. It has kept perfect time since. The first pic is the condition in which I found the Waltham and the last is after I had cleaned the case, taken off the stretch band and replaced it with a new leather taupe toned strap I had purchased recently, but not put on anything yet. I think they work well together. Does anyone know if the Watham would have originally had a second hand? I hope this has added to the spirit of your thread, Fred.

Oh heck no. I'm hoping more will report on their hunting expeditions here as well. I have been lazy posting on them but will get back to it as well. I just got back home a few minutes ago from a quick look-see at some of my usual spots but nothing to report.

I think it indeed qualified and you took the cake on that score.

And I think you are going to steal the show once again with this snazzy Waltham. Nice find! From what I can see on the hand post it doesn't appear there was a second hand.

I already guessed those. I'm leaning towards Banbury now.
Reminds me of Celebrity Jeopardy on SNL. One of the categories was “States Ending In Hampshire.”
Will Ferrell: This is the only state ending in Hampshire.
Tom Hanks: South Hampshire.
Will Ferrell: No.
Tom Hanks: Oh, I’m sorry, WHAT is South Hampshire.

I thought the same thing, but didn't want to poison anyone's mind by stating my belief. Thank you for the kind words and for answering my question. Someday, I am going to find that yard sale Omega....so far just Hamiltons, Seikos, Timex, and now a Waltham. The sort of every day watches the typical guy wears here in rural Maine.

In a lame effort to redeem myself vs. all the cool low priced stuff other have been posting I was hell-bent this past weekend and bought up every el-cheapo deal I could find. 21 watches all together so take that fellow bargain hunters! 😁

Oh I wouldn't get too excited as there really isn't any treasure here but they all run with the exception of the old accutron that I have yet to figure out what battery to put in it. That black oval shaped case jobbie looks like a dynamic but is a manual wind Haverhills which I never heard of but didn't stop me from being a cowboy and packaging it up with the others. 😁

Today I ran across a guy selling these two and I'm in the process of pushing his price down and packaging them up as one deal. This may take a bit of work as he's looking for all the money on them. Let's see if I can wear him down over the next week 😁

I'm visiting the wrong thrift stores.
