Asking price?

I thought $100 would be generous of me for the Longines but the guy disagreed. He wants $425.

Longines is redialed IMO. The others are interesting. The photos are a little blurry obviously, but from what I can see, I particularly like the condition of the Zenith, with the interesting lugs and dial font. Hopefully it's not too tiny.

Yea I like the Zenith too and the size looks decent to me, but again the shop owner wasn't amused with my offer. I was trying to package up the Zenith and GP for $200. 馃榿

These people don鈥檛 understand the art of negotiation or market values. They have merchandise languishing in a display case, they pay rent, staff and utilities, yet they hold firm on their prices and bemoan a soft economy when they fail....it ain鈥檛 the economy guys.

I had a used car dealer ask me how much I wanted to pay for a car and I said $1. He laughed and said he couldn鈥檛 sell me the car for $1-and I replied that I wouldn鈥檛 pay sticker, so how badly did he want to move it....I got the car for about 65% asking when all was said an done.
It鈥檚 not about being a cheapskate, it鈥檚 about establishing the rules of engagement. If they don鈥檛 want to engage, they don鈥檛 get my money.

The Zenith looks like a 106 to me which would make it a decent size.

Ok one more in the wild that I didn't go for. This is a late '50's Datejust tutone 6605 model that I rejected. The antique shop proprietor stomped his feet insisting it was 100% original despite the dial that looks like it was repainted by Stevie Wonder. The more I shook my head the lower he dropped the price until it became clear I wasn't gonna go for it unless it was a no-brainer number. While it had a decent jubilee and seemed to be a runner, those 103x movements are scary if there is any work needed. I put the value of this dog at around $1800 figuring worse case scenario I could blow out the head if the movement needed work for $1200 to a NYC dealer and the bracelet for around $700. We were $800 apart on the deal so no go. 馃榿

Now for some stuff I ran across and did manage to buy. First is this package deal of 4 charming cheapies I got from a small watch shop. The TV dialed Seamaster and Hamilton are in surprisingly pristine condition as the proprietor said they were from the same family and not worn much. The deville shows some age to the dial but overall is presentable, and the Lecoultre needs a cleaning and a second hand but the watch repair shop guy was true to his word as the movement is clean as a whistle with nothing apparently broken. He serviced all but the Lecoutre as he just got it a few days ago and hadn't had the chance to get to it. I bought everything as the price was right and if I cherry-pick that rubs most guys the wrong way and leaves some left for my competition (like Walrus). 馃榿

Yea...you reminded me there are two parts to the buy/sell game. The past few months it's just been buy and adding everything to an already bulging collection. I always say to myself "ok i'll buy this package deal and just keep the one I was after" but it never works out that way...

Southington. Is the town Southington?
Isn鈥檛 Southington the town that鈥檚 just east of Westbourough, but south of Northampton, which I think is west of Eastport.....whatever, it鈥檚 Connecticut.

Yes but haven't you been paying attention? Unlike Southington those towns don't have a "D" in their name.

The D is not only silent, but hidden- just like emotions in CT 馃槈
