And how much was the black dialled Connie from November? You mentioned inconsistancies, what did you mean as it looks good to me?

That constellation wasn't being offered by Tempvs Fvgit, it was offered by a fellow at the flea market known for his tall tales. The watch started out at $1000, then $1200 and the last time we bothered to walk by and chat with him it was $1500. The inconsistencies were the price and story behind the watch, along with keeping it in his pocket rather than in his display case. Too shifty for our tastes and led us along with some other collectors that day to figure something isn't Kosher with it.

Ok, clear. Being in a pocket and not on display says enough really

Well since I had nothing better to do today I went at this Omega and while the crystal looks better I'm afraid it's a gonner and will need replacement. It's just too distorted to sand smooth but I gave it all I got. The case cleanup was a breeze with a bit of alcohol, soft artist brush and a rag.

Now it's time to take a quick spin to the antique group shop one town away as it's sunday and they might have something for new arrivals.[/QUOTE
Looking good!!!!!!!!!

Some guy pulled this from a bag full of watches in local pawn shop. He doesn't know the price yet. What would be resonable offer?

Oh man I hate it when they claim not to know the price. That usually translates to "give me your offer and I will research the net and counter with an absurd amount".

She is a looker for sure and that bracelet is super. Good luck negotiating. 👍

If it's from a pawn shop the onus is on them to tell you the price.

If you do their job for them in pricing it up are they going to give you a cut of the profit?!

The attitudes of most pawn shops is feigned ignorance and disinterest in selling. It's their ploy to sucker people into offering too much.

Exactly. Unless you offer a reasonable price at which point they suddenly remember what they 'need to get' for it.

Was some decent turnout yesterday at the nyc flea market and the usual characters were there. I snagged a few watches and one is this Longines manual winder. Wasn't an easy deal as the vendor was in the midst of hosting his traditional late morning shot-hoisting party but in between toasts I made it happen. Decent looking size and I'll clean her up later this afternoon and slap on a strap.

After doing a bit more research on this Longines I was able to deduce the history of the dial personalization. "Cosmo" is in reference to Cosmo Spacely. As many American watch experts might recall, (and other watch experts from different countries don't matter), Cosmo was the owner of Spacely Sprockets which was a major manufacturer of gears in the '60's and 70's. His wife Petunia commissioned Longines to produce this special presentation watch for employees of their company as well as Cosmo himself to enjoy.
Thru exhaustive research I was able to find out my particular watch was given to an employee named George Jetson.

Wow! A great piece of research, Fred. I understand George and his lovely wife, Jane, passed on a few years back, but that his son, Elroy, lives up in your neck of the woods, Connecticut anyways, around Wilton, I believe. If you are interested and passing the watch along, Elroy would likely be tickled. I have no idea where Judy landed.

Very nice, we have just recently gotten a kitten and named him Cosmo too ( after Cosmo Kramer from Seinfeld 😀 )

All cleaned up. Man, that dial is a peach

That entire watch is stunning. I bet it would look badass on a BOR style bracelet 👍

Bump for another instalment 😉

Hi thanks for the interest and I apologize for not posting lately as I am assigned the night shift and am still trying to get used to the upside down hours and sleep patterns. I have loads of watch treasure hunting updates to report and will get to them within the next few days...if I can manage to keep awake. 😁
