Interesting day yesterday at the NYC flea market and I didn't buy anything which probably means the day was a success 😁

Our pally George had this gorgeous jumbo Angelus in his shop and it's really a sight to behold in person. Was tempted to snatch it up but I spent way too much on watches this month already!

Now that is a cool watch!

What is it - 37mm?

Edit: never mind, just noticed the link - 38mm.

I wisely skipped NYC yesterday as the temperature and parking would be too difficult to deal with and instead took a spin up the shoreline area of Connecticut to check my usual haunts for watch treasure. In the exclusive stuffy town of Essex I found this forlorn looking Omega for $150. Believe it or not the thing runs like new and the dial is perfect, but what is with all the grunge and that distorted crystal? I showed these pictures to a fellow forum pal last night and he suggested perhaps it was worn by a chef and the crystal melted during his cooking. Seems like the most plausible explanation with all that grime on it too. 😁

Oh I forgot to mention I couldn't help myself and bought it. Today I will see what I can do with that distorted crystal...if there's any hope for saving it. I'm not so concerned about the grunge as that should clean up just fine with a bit of alcohol and a small brush. I hope.

Nice find. The blue on these late 60's/early 70's Geneves is really wonderful.

The problem seems to be that the paint wasn't that durable and it often degrades and flakes off around the lume plots. Yours looks to have escaped this. I bet it'll clean up great!

I have found that if alcohol can’t get it off, Naptha (lighter fluid) works wonders. Fast evaporating and leaves no reside- I know many art conservators who swear by it for removing nicotine and environmental funk from artwork.

Well since I had nothing better to do today I went at this Omega and while the crystal looks better I'm afraid it's a gonner and will need replacement. It's just too distorted to sand smooth but I gave it all I got. The case cleanup was a breeze with a bit of alcohol, soft artist brush and a rag.

Now it's time to take a quick spin to the antique group shop one town away as it's sunday and they might have something for new arrivals.

And there was I, hoping for a YouTube link so I could watch the film of the clean up.

Ah one or two watches in two days is small potatoes. I'm just getting in my stride 😁

Well yesterday's ride to the antique group shop produced a 1956 Bulova for $95 with a perfect original black dial partially obscured by a marked up and cracked crystal. The dial has a very pronounced pie pan dome shape to it that for the life of me I can't capture in pictures. Nice big size too. Still running and keeping great time today so I guess it's gonna get a new acrylic and leather strap and join our already overflowing collection of charming cheapies to play with and wear 😁

I really like vintage Bulovas, I have owned and sold many-kept a few
I gave my wife a Gold Filled Academy Award that she wears, and I just gave my watch man a 1958 Model 23B
23 Jewels Automatic with 6 adjustments-needs a new crystal but is running strong after not being used for many years
Paid $1 and bought 12 other vintage watches that day-Gruen, Waltham, Seiko, Bulova, Timex-the fun is in the hunt

Found this 1963 10k RGP Automatic that day

Looks like my 1957 “President” variation “C”, 32.4mm diameter case, cal. 11AC. Really handsome watch, IMHO. A very nice find, Fred.

Merry Christmas everyone. So we were out for a walk today and happened upon this jewelry shop with a “fixtures for sale” sign in the window 😬

So I went in and asked the usual questions...

- Do you have any watches?
“Sorry no, but I used to sell Bulova’s but not since the 70’s”

- Any clocks?
“Sorry, no”

- Any advertising or catalogues?
“Sorry no”

hmmm

- Any watch straps?
“I haven’t been asked that in years, let’s see...”

4 trays of them came out, but most were ladies straps. But, I did pick up these NOS gems 😀

I really like this Corfam deployant clasp with a serious bit of velour/suede swagger that will look amazballs on this Benrus

Left in a drawer since 1970 ::psy::

And this was in the mail when I got home. Not that I have a need for it, but it is a NOS pocket watch key from Henry Birks & Sons, Vancouver. Birks is Canada’s version of Tiffany’s

Merry Christmas, and a happy NOS-Year!

@Fritz , I got your message just after this! It’s been a fun day!!

Stopped at a modest Joyeria in a strip mall today, and found these nice vintage Seikos
1971 4006-6039 BellMatic alarm watch
1977 6309-5059
I'm quite fond of the BellMatic
