Some really nice pieces there. Sounds like an "inside job" too. Bastards. Good luck catching them mate, although I wouldn't hold my breath. I'm guessing police will hardly care less. Unless you're a celebrity or reporting a murder, abduction or hate crime it seems like they couldn't give two hoots

Sorry to hear this. While I'm sure this stings, the fact that no one was hurt is for me the main takeaway. We all love watches certainly, but in the end they are just things. Hope you are able to recover them, and that the perps are caught.

Terribly sorry to hear this. Truly hoping we see a follow up post in due course indicating that these assholes were caught.

All the best to you and your family.

Sorry to hear of this…

An immensely distressing, and intimidating experience, to be targeted by professional thieves, evidently well briefed

I very much hope both you, and the family, are able to overcome this appalling episode, and move forward

Sadly in hindsight, ( and its always, in hindsight ) …perhaps other Members should reflect on the wisdom, and discretion, of divulging any geographical location, or the breadth / value of their collection…on a globally accessible platform, such as Instagram ?

We have certainly experienced ‘Scoundrels’ on this forum before

I’m quite sure, they continue to monitor Social Media, for opportunities ?
Some very valid general points in there, obviously.

Although I always take care of removing of any geotag in any photo I upload on social media (which I do very rarely), I was actually wondering if such info is already removed from pics we upload on OF.
Anybody who knows this answer would care to comment, please?

Thanks all the well wishes.

I now need to get to my works PC to pull off my spreadsheet with all serial numbers on.

Will next update thread with serial numbers hopefully later today or tomorrow at latest.

To reiterate £10000.00 cash reward for names given to me for the scumbags that have done this along with safe return of watches.

Chunky - you have great taste in watches, and cars - thats an F90 M5 isnt it?

I hope you get either your watches back or the £££ from insurance that they are worth and thank god you and family are safe, as that is worth more than money could ever buy.

Thats a question that I have often wondered whether the geotags are removed from forums or not?

Yes, at least in my experience with this, geotag information is removed when uploading to OF. I have intentionally experimented with this last year. I uploaded images specifically with my geotag in the metadata, opened the uploaded image in a new window (for highest resolution), saved image, and opened the metadata using different methods and all geo info was gone. iirc, the only info in the metadata, from the saved image, was the year. Cameras used were my iPhone Xs, Google Pixel 3, Recently tried again with my iPhone 12.

You have to remove the photo location tag option in your phone . Personally I block everything I can in phones and computers I use.

Some friends of mine bought a small safe in a flea market for almost nothing. They have been robbed several times. They put inside a few unvaluable things. They have been robbed the safe a few months later. With only a few stones in it....

For a safe buy a gun safe for rifles there so big plus bolted to the floor plus there so big your neighbors will see them stealing it from your house if they get it out of your house. You will need a hand truck to move it. Make it tough for thief’s they mite not get away with it. Small safe one guy can carry out of the house a waist of time.

I would agree with you… in theory. But if they can’t snatch it, then YOU, or your family members, become the bargaining chip to open said safe.
Not sure it is worth it. Just get a safe at a bank.

A safe deposit box at the bank is certainly a valuable option, but they are not invincible either. And then you have the issue of exposing yourself taking your valuables to/from the bank. And if you have a varied collection do you really want to go to the bank to swap watches or to get your wife's diamond necklace/earrings/ring when she wants to wear them? That is a hassle. In the end it really depends on your personal circumstances.....where you live, crime statistics, liability or risk you are willing to tolerate, etc. For those that live in a fairly safe environment the needs are simpler, those that live in a dense city environment with sketchy crime will find a different set of circumstances. Everyone's circumstances are different. I've never been convinced that having a seemingly impenetrable safe is the best way to go, you are powerless if the bad guys do a home invasion if you are at home. The safe is meaningless when that knock occurs while you are at home. Burglars really don't want to interact with anyone, they just want to steal things, but there is now an element of crime where the perps will openly confront their victims at home.

Anyway, I hope the OP gets satisfaction from his insurance company because the watches are likely long gone and scattered to the four winds, sad as that is.
