Waffle dial, original?

Hi guys,

Im having a hard time to determine if this dial is the real deal or redialed. I usually find it easy to see if dials has been tampered with but with this one i cant really decide. Waffle dials are harder to judge since the uneven surface can easily fool your eyes. Imo the ”Seamaster” font looks like it should but im not sure if the minute tracks was there to begin with. I have no idea what to think about the lume plots, the lume plot at 12, looks a little off but correct me if im wrong. The grey lume appears to be aged, could it be original? I only have one photo of the watch and ive studied it several times. I have searched for another example with this kind of dial layout on the web to compare with but with zero results. I have mixed feelings about what to make of it...do you guys have any opinion about this one?

Good question. I think the second hand a bit short in any case. But other than that, it's a very good redial if it is one.

Redial. It’s the look but see how seamaster is misaligned.

The minute ticks appear good in some areas, but esp between 10 and 2 they lost focus and made them different lengths and had to go over their work on others. It wont make it onto the Omega museum, but it looks great for a wearer though 👍

There is a fair bit wrong here. In addition to the misalignment of Seamaster, the font is also incorrect for the year of this watch. As the OP pointed out, the numerals are too close to the edge of the dial. The whiteness of the dial, also looks suspect, in addition to the minute markers and second hand issues that were already identified.

I knew you guys would rule out this dial as fake. I felt that it was several things odd with it but i wasnt 100% sure because of the waffle dial type. Good to have you guys pinpointing every devation i suspected it had!

Yes, honeycomb/waffle dials are often used for reprints. And those few original ones usually have dirt trapped all over, near the indices, in the surface grooves. They are never so clean after 50-60 years.

Hash marks too crude, lume at 3-6-9-12 where there should be none, too starkly white for a vintage Omega...

I even have a feeling that the hands aren't all correct either.

Sure about the dirtyness? I have seen a couple ”undirty” waffle dialed pieces that looks original to me like the example below. Its a two-tone but still white and clean 😀

You are right about the dial whiteness. It almost looks chemical and bleached. No creamy shade at all

Yes, I used the word "usually". Every so often there are some genuinely clean
