Slightly off topic too - despite the bad rep on the forum I’ve had a couple good experiences buying from Vision Vintage in the U.K. although I’d argue he falls into the category of dealer who very much overpromises what you’re getting in his descriptions… oh and the sky high prices
Don't we on the forum know the owner of Vision Vintage? Or am I thinking of a different business?

That’s a shame. Did you return the watch?

Amazing what flaws dealers can hide in photos.

A couple people on the forum have mentioned positive experiences buying from TIMEANAGRAM before.
Is this the same dealer as MARGANAEMIT, aka GANMETIMAARM?

Regarding the Japanese sellers: Note that there are a LOT of resellers from Japan that don't have their watches in stock. They go into local stores and buy them w hen you order them, in many cases their descriptions are just what the sales person described to them. So in those cases, they're not particularly reliable.
Ok, so now I understand why a number of other Japanese sellers were showing the exact same stock photo. When I asked one dealer this is, he said that he lists watches under other platforms and maybe others are using his photo. I meant other sellers on eBay, I guess I should have been clear about that…or, he likely knew I meant that?

I suspect he knew what you meant 😀 Despite their levels of honesty, they never tell the truth on this. I got curious at one point and found ~5 sellers with the exact same watch, and messaged them all, and they all claimed all the OTHER sellers were stealing pics, not that they were re-listing from some japanese site (which I DID find at one point with reverse-image-search). IF you care enough you can play them off of eachother and get a good feel what the 'seller' is asking for it, as some of them are willing to accept MUCH less money for it (I did this on my railmaster, which I instead just spent a few extra hundred and got new-with-warranty-card-to-me).

If seller cannot answer your questions or provide adequate photos move on.
Although a number of RECOMMENDED VINTAGE OMEGA WATCHES (ONLY) ON EBAY are listed without photos of the movement. Which doesn’t stop me from bidding because recommended but I do factor that into the price I’ll bid or offer if the seller won’t provide movement photos in a case like this:

Seller said he couldn’t provide pictures of the movement because he doesn’t have the proper tool. Of course I don’t know if he’s being honest, ie, he sells a lot of stuff besides watches.

Yeah, that thread is interesting/curated interestingly, and I have bought a few from there, but tend to only bid 'low' and see if I luck into no one else really caring.

Generally I assume the seller offering the watch at the lowest price is the one who actually has it.
The rest are just drop shipping it with their margin added on top

I know at least one person who bought a watch from one of these "drop-shippers" and the sales was canceled with a refund and no explanation.

I'd be tempted to buy from 2 of them at once and make them race 😁

That sounds... ominous. Anyone got some tea/links/etc?
You can do a search on the forum - a few threads on VV, and one here to start. To be fair, I bought a Connie from him, no issues with that, as there was a small blemish on the dial which was disclosed (and visible in pics), and I was happy with the purchase. It seems others had issues though, which led to his exit from this forum.

Just had a read of that thread you linked to regarding VV. Interesting!

Makes you wonder why there aren’t any trustworthy dealers on here, or at least that I know of?

I suppose as enthusiasts this is what we want to spend our time doing, reading and commenting in the forum. Whereas for dealers it’s just a business?

I just can’t help but think if a decent, knowledgable dealer came along who was honest and transparent began to frequent omega forums he’d likely make a killing if priced right.

Sometimes I do get the impression as watch hobbyists that we want out cake and eat it though. Watch vintage is a prime example of this. His watches are fully serviced, customer service is good. Pictures and descriptions honest. But the prices… well they’re on another planet. £2500 for a Seamaster genevé, just couldn’t stomach it myself.

I’m quite new to the forum but it seems to me most of the private sales are vintage and the dealer posts are modern watches.

In addition to that, I’d rather buy from a trusted member on here than a dealer.

So if anyone has a nice constellation deluxe or a seamaster on a BOR please do send me a message 😂
