Vintage Speedmaster with unusual hands; original?

Hello,

Here is a Speedmaster 145.022-78 (pls correct me if I'm wrong) on which I need an expert opinion.
It seems original to me, just the hands are confusing... but I'm just a beginner...
I'm in the position to buy it for around $5K. Does it worth it?
Unfortunately, could not open it to see the numbers...

Yeah , @Spacefruit 's speedmaster101.com is your friend. Those hands are definitely wonky. Pass and don't even bother to ask for more /additional photos.

Probably Speedmaster MK2 hands going by the size of the hour hand and the length of the lume

...And more specifically for the Racing Dial version of the Mark II, I believe. The original black dialed Mark II would have originally come with a slimmer hour hand, but the slightly wider hand pictured here was commonly installed as a service replacement... in keeping with Omega's wonderful "Whatever Works" policy of watch restoration.

I don’t actually think they are Mk2 hands, at least not original 1970s ones anyhow. One of the other marks is more likely. Speedmaster Mk IV maybe? The hour hand on Mk 2s is thinner than that.

To me, they look like red or grey dial dial Chronostop hands...? Except they would be black in centre, so... not sure?

Pretty common to have these type (and other wrong type) hands installed by Omega service center during service.

Hole size would be wrong, much bigger on cal1040 Agree service hands, maybe generic?

I bought a 145.022-76 with similar - perhaps the same - hands last year: https://omegaforums.net/threads/my-first-speedy-gets-handsy-with-me.81108/

I agree that they look like Mark IV hands

I had the hands on mine replaced with NOS tritium hands at service, but they cost me a couple hundred bucks. But as I got a good deal on the watch I didn't mind so much. For $5k you can definitely get a speedy with correct parts - hard pass on this one at that price.

I dont think they could be mk2 racing.
Every racing dial i can find has black and white hands.
Here is mine

While Omega will certainly put parts on a watch that didn't originally come with the watch if the "right" parts aren't available, to suggest they did that here doesn't make sense. Speedmaster hands have been available all along the life of the watch, so it's unlikely Omega put these on.
