Hello,
First time posting on here so please forgive me if any of these questions have been answered in previous threads.

My mother came across what I believe to be a 3rd gen (1963) ST 105.003 in my fathers dresser drawer a few days ago and gave to me. Immediately I started doing research and from what I read going to an Omega boutique would not be smart. They would strip the watch of the original parts and damage the value. However, I definitely want to have it serviced as I would like to wear it on occasion. Anything I should know in advance as I search for a place to take it and have this done? The watch is still working and in average shape for a watch this old I would think. The leather band will definitely need replaced. This is my first opportunity to own any kind of higher end watch so I’m trying to learn all that I can and preserve it appropriately. Also, any recommendations on a place to take it to in the South Florida area? Thanks in advance.

Welcome! That is quite the thing to find in a dresser drawer!

Many experts here will undoubtedly have details to share. I just love that thing the way it looks overall, including that strap.

I don’t think it’s a 105.003, not because of the alpha hands, but because of the silver Rehaut 105.002 or older!

You can try to open it with double sided tape and a plane surface. Inside of the caseback will give us all information needed 😀

And: great find!

I can’t help with servicing recommendations as I’m in the UK but it looks like it’s actually a slightly earlier 2998 or 105.002.

Dont wind it or wear it until it can be properly serviced you could damage the movement, oils have all dried up- its like running car on no oil
Take your time find an independent watchmaker who has Omega parts account and is experienced and respectful regarding vintage watches. Someone here will have recommendation for suitable watchmaker- No rush the time taken to research the proper place will pay off.
Congrats on a wonderful heirloom, welcome to OF and please post photos of the serviced prize!!
