Did anyone mention/clarify to not sell it to the jewelry store for $9k? 😉
I think OP got the point, but I’ll reiterate it for emphasis.
Hello, Yes, I almost did sell it for that. Thankfully I have learned in the past to always get a 2nd opinion! Very happy and lucky that I found this site! JWS

Hello All,

We have decided, as it stands now, to not sell the watch. When the time comes for my wife to sell it, she knows the way to contact the well known forum member who lives in Chicago and see if he is interested in buying it. I had no idea at all of its value and how much it has grown in value! I like the forum a lot and will watch it often!. I will also hold the watch sometimes and just admire it, but not wear it. A BIG THANK-YOU to everyone who took the time to comment on the thread!! Dutchflyer9

Best of luck whatever you choose to do with your Speedy; it’s a beautiful condition watch. I’m really curious about the numbers etched into the lug - can you shed any light on the background of this and its significance?

Hello, Thanks for the best wishes. I am certainly very far from an expert. Did not even know what polished really means. I did read somewhere on this forum that those numbers had something to do with the bracelet.

I am glad you found your way to the forum (and that you did not sell your beautiful watch to the jewelry store ).

All the best!

Good news you’re keeping it! It links you with your wife and your past - would be a shame to loose that.

You should wear it!! No good sitting in a safe and it’s not collector condition so would suggest it’s value would not be affected by general occasional wear. It would even benefit from being worked.

Thank-you for some sensible advice. The watch does look very nice on my wrist and my wife does like it when I wear it!

Given it has not been serviced in 20+ years, you have some level of risk if winding it.

The 105.012 Speedmaster is from the same general production series as the watches worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the surface of the Moon (theirs were -65s I believe) so I hope this sheds some light on the value placed on your watch. I also own a 105.012-66 but it is not in nearly as good condition as yours -- yours is simply stunning. I'm glad you decided to hang onto it, as it's kind of like owning a piece of history.

I’m in Virginia as well. maybe us Virginians can have a coffee and watch meetup somewhere? It would be cool to see your watch and share some stories.

What part(s) of Virginia are you two at? There is another thread on a DC-area GTG with hopes for at least a small gathering in March and a bigger one maybe in the Fall.
