This is a club that I have been looking to join for a long while, and I am very excited to have just received my (first?!) vintage SM300... I love it, especially on the original 1056 bracelet, but I wanted to hear any theories about one particular part - the hands. As you can see they have certainly seen better days, and according to the original owner ( as told to the dealer that I transacted with ) they are 100% original to the watch ( purchased by him mid 60s ). The watch does appear in fantastic used but unpolished condition. The hands are intriguing as they are pre-sword baton hands - but they are thinner than any set I gave seen until now. My first thought was of Speedmaster hands, but they look different to my 105.012's (my only handy reference point)... What do the members think? Anyway, I love the look and feel of this thing...thanks!
..

100% with out question, the hour and minute hand are not original.

Feared as much - I was somewhat encouraged that they can exist with Dauphine hands, which also have very little lume, but I hear ya. Where's the best place to source a set of new old ones (preferably aged appropriately)?

Just been looking through catalogues at 'Old Omegas' (a pleasure to do that in itself) - looks like these are Seamaster 120 hands! So not totally outside the family... Lord knows how they got there, but on to the hunt for a nice pair of sword hands...

And now I'm really confused - I swear I'm not just trying to get my post count up to 200 ! I just found this thread ...

http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/se...8.html#/forumsite/20758/topics/1394618?page=1

Which has this picture of a SM300, with hands that certainly look like mine...

These are more like the SM 120 hands. Your watch's hands look to have even less lume area than these.

PS: I think that picture was reposted to WUS from the French forum so you may want to check that forum out.

I'm sorry, but the hands on yours are just not original to the watch. I know the seller claimed they are original, but there is no chance that is true. As for how they got there, most likely at some point the sword hands were damaged somehow and a watchmaker replaced them with whatever they happened to have available, which was some stick hands from a dress watch.

As for replacements, its going to be extremely difficult to find a set of tritium hands that will match your dial and bezel. If I were you, I'd consider obtaining a new set of sword hands and lume them to match the dial.

Awesome dial and bezel by the way.

Thanks! yeah that's looking like definitely the best option to complete the look properly anyway. Shame not to have the originals, but it will still be a lovely watch to wear, which after all is what it's meant for! Thanks to everyone for all the input.

Thanks, the straps are di-modell rallyes great quality fro the price. However I acquired them both on 1039 bracelets, but as they are worn regularly I felt that that I needed something a bit less fragile.

Cheers

Ok so replacement set of hands número uno... Just painted lume. Not bad, but I've got another set on the way which I'm going to apply some more patient aging processes too...
