Vintage service in Switzerland

Have a vintage centenary that needs servicing. Called the omega boutique close by and they said the watch could be sent to Switzerland, 6-12 month turn around. Has anyone done this with a vintage and we're you happy with the results? Recommendations from the experience?

It only needs a service? In what country or region are you located?

Before I discovered the trove of knowledge here I sent an early quartz Omega to Switzerland via an AD. Six to eight weeks turnaround don't remember exactly, and good service. Parts replaced were returned -- although some faintly visible damage to the original dial from a fall onto concrete was now gone, but no return of the damaged dial. Not sure, a light tap with a hammer would have fixed it...

Only service. Light case and Dial work would be fine. Not looking for any refinishing that makes the watch look new. Based in Seattle area.

I'd recommend finding a local party

You don't need to quote if you react on a post direct above.

Because there are dozens of competent watchmakers who you can service your watch for half the price of an Omega CH service (not even counting the transport and import costs)

How come?

Read up on some of the horror stories where Omega Switzerland has "restored" vintage watches by making them look like new, with service dials/hands/case polishing etc.

If you're in Seattle, try Nesbitts.

Just had an “estimate” from a local Omega agent for servicing (by Omega in Switzerland) for my 1960s Seamaster de Ville - between £355 and £1,000! Needless to say, I declined. I assume any reputable watchmaker could do it?

Problems may occur concerning tritium or radium. Check and search OF therefore... Or ask omega (switzerland!) before. Post a picture of the watch...

Thanks, I'm waiting to get the watch back from being valued for insurance. I'll post details when I get it vack.
