Vintage Seamaster 30 with a very funky dial - need your help!

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie in the Omega vintage world, so please excuse my mistakes in the case.

After some lurking on the forum and learning a lot from you on the endless various Seamasters out there, I've recently stumbled across this very funky one on eBay..and I have no clue about what I'm looking at!

The movement seems kind of ok to me, however, the lack of Seamonster on the case and the colors of the dials seem a bit strange to me. I have to admit that it looks cool, however, I'd like to happily move on if this watch is a complete Frankenstein.

Do you have any info to help me through?

Thanks a lot everyone!

It’s an utter piece of shit. The movement is tired and has lost half its plating, the case is severely over polished and the dial is an utter fantasy that someone crudely painted very recently.

I’ll bet this was a heavily worn and water damaged watch (with a silver dial) that someone has tarted up for a quick profit.

So a franken watch with a very bad painted dial..but i suspect that the case also is not Omega. The screw of the movement which hold in the case are missing so i do not think it fit well..

Thanks a lot for your info on this! I felt it was quite a strange-looking watch, but given my no-experience, I wanted to ask you first! 😁

For instance, I was looking also at this one but I had no idea if it was legit or not, but in general, all the Seamaster have so many little details that I hardly spot.

What are the first few things you look into when looking for a vintage Seamaster in order to spot if it's ok?

Glad you checked here first before making a horrible mistake.
The best way to know what you are looking for is education and honing your eye. Look at lots of comps. Omega was pretty consistent with styles, fonts, markers, lume pips- etc. sure there are the odd variants, but they don’t vary that far from the norm and are generally well documented.

This is a good thread to get your started on the road to knowledge

The private sales section here is a good place to find honest examples. It’s group monitored so if something sketchy comes up it will get called out pretty quickly. You can’t post in the sales thread until you had 200 posts, but you can PM a seller and start a conversation.

It’s what we are here for, and we all start down this rabbit hole at some point- better to do it with others than go it alone
