hello all
I've recently bought a "grail" of mine.
the mighty PlopProf 166.0077
I'm about to send to STS for service but....
the bezel has lost (or had removed) its polished lugs of the edge. they appear dull and matt
my questions are...
were all bezels polished?
the original press Ad for them looks like its wasn't

but many including the ones on www.ploprof.com are

mine

Is this the fellows watch from last month?

It's already either been to Bienne or STS if so...

Hello palatine,

I have a very original bezel on my Ploprof and can confirm that the edges on mine are matt - the same as yours.

Your case also looks very original from the pics posted and my inclination would be to leave it as is a couple of reasons.

1. Although Ploprof cases look to be a big chunk of steel they are in fact a very complex case made up of many angles and finishes with some parts being concave and difficult to refinish correctly.

2. The fine polished thin bezel especially has many changes of direction with internal and external angles and often when refinished these end up as varying widths and a little too large or both.

Hope this helps.

Jack

I bought it in the sale on the 30th...
there was no mention of a service in the details?!
Are you sure? I hope your right as it will save me a small fortune.

I had it in hand... it's been refinished and is wearing service parts... maybe not that recently, but I'd be pretty sure that either Bienne or STS have had their hands on it.

Yeah the dial and hands are service items for sure.
I don't think it was recent though as the movement definitely needs looking at.
It's not running properly
I think I'll email STS the serial no. And ask if they've seen it.

I thought it was a really lovely watch, and for the price you did well! 👍
