Vintage Omega 176.007 Questions

Folks, I found a nice Omega on the bay that I like but I can't find a lot of pricing information for the watch. I did find a similar one here that traded for $1650 but it also included a new 1170 bracelet and 653 end links. The ebay offer is just the head on a cheap generic strap and he's asking $2000. EDIT: He's now dropped the price to $1600, but that still sounds really high.

What do you think about the watch and the price? It seems high to me without the original bracelet and end links, so what's a reasonable price to pay for one of these? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

That's a nice example of a 176.007 with the venerable cal 1040 movement. The watch looks to be in good shape and possibly polished. The bracelet is not original. The asking price is certainly high for what these are going for in the market. A lot of guys try to sell these watches for more than they're really worth on ebay or chrono24 hoping someone will just buy it or bid it up in an auction. Furthermore, it's the blue dial versions that are most collectable and command the highest prices. If this one doesn't have the original bracelet and even more valuably the 653 end links, then I don't think you should pay any more than $1000 for this version.

Do you know the service history? Does it come with box and papers or receipt? A proper service on these is worth at least $300 or more and could add to the value of the piece if it were recently serviced by a reputable service company or directly by Omega where it would probably cost double that.

I don't know the history. The description said the watch was restored with the following:

New genuine OMEGA crystal (with tiny Omega logo in the center)
New genuine Omega tachymetre ring
New genuine Omega crown
New genuine Omega stem
New genuine Omega chronograph minute pointer hand
New genuine Omega chronograph hour hand

Well I wouldn't really call that a restoration unless the actual movement was rebuilt. Never the less, those are all parts that you can get from Ofrei for about $250 that add some value, but not $600 worth.

This is the similar one I found here on the forum that included the original bracelet and endlinks.

This is a less common dial variation of the 176.007 and I think commands a slightly higher price than the blue dial versions. However, it looks to me from the last picture in the OP's post that the case has been extensively polished. Taking this into consideration I would stay away at this price point.
