I have a Mido 2503, 34mm wide, made back in the 70's (I think!) which belonged to my late father. It hasn't had a service in a while so I had it serviced. To my surprise, every single part was in great shape so it must be a good piece.
Can anyone confirm if it was indeed made in the 70's?

Just bought a Mido. It's a 66 Ocean Star Ref# 5067. I allways like to get an old Ocean star or Commander:

I hope nobody minds me digging out this oldish topic. Reason being I’m tempted to add an old mido to the collection. My favorite model would be one with the octagonal-ish case. Does anyone know if they came in different sizes? I’ve only seen really small one <30mm. So I’d like to know if they also came in 32 or 34 even.

thanks a lot for your help!

Not to my knowledge, and I own more than a few Mido.

Thanks for your quick response. So only one size at around 29mm?

I wouldn't necessarily say one size, but probably they are all in the 28-30mm range.

No, sorry. The best way to gauge from afar would likely be to view a clear photo of the back of the watch with the case back removed. You can then see the movement, and, assuming knowledge of the size of the caliber, make a decent guess as to the case size.

So, for example, this appears to be a Mido cal. 816 movement:

and a quick search on the ever-useful Roland Ranfft reference site:

http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&&2uswk&Mido_816

reveals that it is 24.8mm in diameter. It should be fairly easy to then estimate that there are 2-3mm on each side of the movement, (correct) suggesting a case size of ~29mm.

That’s a good way to guess. Thanks so much. Hopefully I can find a nice one.

Recently I was lucky enough to add this 37mm Mido to the collection. Just love the dial!
