That's correct, my original budget is around €600 but I'm starting to doubt that's enough

Thanks again!

Honestly, so far the watches you've brought back to show have been in pretty lackluster shape that are not worth anywhere close to the asking prices. ND Law here linked you to two Constellations, one slightly higher than your budget and one below it... but these are honest looking watches.

There are a couple of really nice c-case Constellations in the private sales forum -- I might recommend checking them out! I was thinking of these:

https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-c-case-constellation-from-1969.104954/

https://omegaforums.net/threads/ome...meter-c-case-c-1972-w-original-buckle.103319/

Rookie question - how can you tell the watch has been excessively polished?

Thanks again!

Look at the links above and pay attention to the edges of the case... the unpolished ones will have defined lines (specifically the bevel). The sharper and more defined, the less likely it was polished or buffed, or at least done so very sympathetically as not to damage the shape of the case. Your friend's looks like a bar of soap... that thing has been buffed a lot.

Both watches recommended by NDLaw look nice, but I'm looking for watches in the EU.

I'm very new to this forum - is there a particular thread for sale by members of the forum? I did a search but didn't find such a particular thread.

Thanks all!

if I was looking for a C constellation for over a year, I would swing for the grandstands-stretch my budget and go for the gold capped one together with the matching bracelet being offered for sale on this forum. grab it and be done with it. 😀

There are a lot of great watches there, and typically much cheaper than elsewhere. You should still do your due diligence about the quality of the watch for sale, but its a lot easier when the sellers here are genuinely trying to sell watches with as much disclosure as possible.

As a sidenote, its not necessarily bad to ship from outside the EU for you. I bought my watch from Europe and it was shipped to me to the US without much problem. Especially when its shipped by those who've sold internationally and have experience shipping.

I believe the problem is not the shipping, but the customs taxes . You guys in the USA do not pay customs . Here in Greece for example we pay 24% extra , and a minimum fee of 30€ for the customs just opening the box . If I lived in the USA I would have bought three times the watches I have now . I find better offers in the USA but with the taxes...

I think your budget is just fine for a C case, patience will be your friend. Keep looking, keep learning, and sooner or later a good one will be found for your budget.

Well,
I have been searching for a c-case constellation for 2 years now. Already bought(500 euros) and returned one 564 cal, which the quick date didn't work. I love this design. Every decent c-case watch I have found in Europe is sold for more than 800 euros except the defect I mentioned above. In USA I have found it many times at 500-600 USD which is about 450 Euros. We are talking about a BIG difference my friend.. Be careful, and patient. I think we will both find one eventually.. 😀

If the price difference is so large between the US and EU, why not find a good one stateside and pay the import fee? Based on the info you provided earlier if you find one for 450 Euro, add 24% fee you, you still end up with a total of 558 Euro, which is below the 800 you've found In the EU?

Yes its more expensive than what someone in the US would pay, but it looks like it would be cheaper than buying it local even when accounting for shipping and fees.

Except grangerpotter needs to wait until they are up to 200 posts before being able to participate in buy and sell fora, I thought.

You need to have 200 posts before you can comment or make your own threads in the buy or sell forums. You are allowed to message the sellers if you are below the post count. However, if you have few posts, the seller may not reply. When I purchased my watch from a seller on this forum, I must have have only 20 posts.

My friend the fees depend on the final sale value that a customs employee will wake up one day and will estimate how much it costs. They may value the watch as 800€ since they will see this price in Europe and then you need a lot of email and proof exchange to pay as you say. They may never accept the PayPal receipt. It depends on the employee.

Ah, I did not realize that the value is assessed by the agent. I figured it was based on the actual paid/sale price. That would make it a risky proposition since the valuation can be much higher than what the actual value is.
